March 5, 1931 - January 11, 2019
Dorothy Anne Schoell, 87 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, Michigan, died peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2019 at the IHM Senior Living Community. Born March 5, 1931 in Monroe, Dorothy was the daughter of the late William H. and Eva (Hoffman) Schoell. Dorothy excelled academically as a 1949 graduate of Saint Mary Academy. After high school she received her under graduate degree at Marygrove College. Subsequently, she received her Master of Arts (Education) from the University of Michigan in 1960. Dorothy had a fulfilling career as an elementary school teacher at Christiancy Elementary School in Monroe. Her focus was always on the child and helping mold their futures. Dorothy had many interests and a full life outside her career. She was a member of the Monroe Chamber Singers, AAUW, an avid reader, active golfer, devoted Tigers fan and cross country ski buff. Never one to let life pass her by, she enjoyed travel – a favorite annual destination being Mackinaw Island. She had a talent for crafts - a huge fan of Martha Stewart. In later years, you could find her as a regular at the Tecumseh Tea Room enjoying tea and conversation. Dorothy loved people and had a wonderful generous spirit. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her beloved sisters, Margaret Constan of Midland, MI and Sister Eva Schoell of Monroe, three loving nieces; Sue (Bill Neyland) McMillin of Round Rock, TX, Karen (Kevin) Lobdell of Chicago, IL and Michelle (Jim) Doyle of Freeland, MI, as well as her nephew Jim Constan of Dearborn, MI. Dorothy will lie in state on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at 8:30 AM at the IHM Mother House, 610 W. Elm Avenue, Monroe, MI, 48162, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM. Rev. Fr. David Burgard, Pastor of St. Mary Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Jospeh Cemetery, Monroe. Dorothy’s family would like to thank everyone for their support and generosity during this difficult time. A special thanks to the caregivers at IHM Senior Living Center, and Mike Newcomer, a close personal friend, for their caring and loving support of Dorothy.
