May 8, 1940 - June 21, 2021
Connie J. Thomas, age 81 of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 21, 2021 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. She had been in declining health for several months. Born May 8, 1940 in Saginaw, MI, Connie was the daughter of the late Alvin and Leona (Bartley) Weiss. She graduated from Saint Mary Academy in 1958 and after meeting the love of her life at a local dance she married Ronald L. Thomas on November 28, 1959 at St. Joseph Church in Monroe. They have been there for each other ever since. As a young lady, Connie was employed as a dance instructor at the former Weiss Studio of Dance for approximately four years, a dance studio owned by her mother Leona. She later began a long career that spanned 40 years as a medical insurance biller. Her attention to detail and accuracy made her an asset to numerous local specialized medical practices. Always feeling the urge to create and perform, she loved to organize events and fundraisers. She was a member and director of the Rod and Gun Club Dis-Players and she would also host variety shows to raise money for cancer research. Connie enjoyed playing bridge, which was a weekly event, and was an expert player. She stayed close to her childhood friends who would meet every month for lunch. She created “couples club” in order for all of her friends and spouses to get together monthly. Connie has been the unquestionable family matriarch. She loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Each generation knew and loved her as “Mimmie”. Whether it was renting a summer cottage for the week, or having holiday dinners at her house, family always came first. They will miss their “cruise director”. She truly was the wind beneath their wings. Connie is survived by her husband Ron; son, Timothy (Sandra) Thomas of Flower Mound, TX; daughter, LeeAnn (Randy) Bass of Monroe; brother, Joseph (Georgetta) Weiss of Monroe; five grandchildren: Emilee (Colton) Kloster, Ron (Blake) Thomas, Ashley (Evan) Pape, Brandon Thomas, and Laney Bass; two great-grandchildren, Haylee and Thomas Kloster. Connie was preceded in death by a son, Ronald E. “Ronnie” Thomas; father, Alvin Weiss; mother, Leona Wilson; and step-father, Thurston Wilson. Family and friends may visit from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Bacarella Funeral Home. Connie will lie in state at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Rev. Fr. David Burgard. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. For anyone wanting to make a donation in memory of Connie, the family suggests supporting the American Cancer Society.
