Ruth L. McLaughlin

Ruth Lillian McLaughlin, 91 years, passed away Sept. 16th, 2014 at Fountain View of Monroe Nursing Home, Monroe, MI. Born April 2, 1923 in Hop Bottom, PA she was the daughter of John and Elsie (Karpa) Eremo. After graduating from Brooklyn High School in 1942, Ruth moved to Wyandotte, MI where her sister had located. Ruth worked as a parts inspector at the Willow Run Bomber Plant during World War II. In 1946 she married Everett McLaughlin. They were married for 58 years. He preceded her in death in 2005. Ruth was a devoted homemaker who greatly enjoyed having her family around her to celebrate special occasions. As an animal lover, she was especially pleased when family members were accompanied by their dogs. She found great enjoyment in playing with and caring for her furry family members. Ruth is survived by two daughters, Ruth Linda Reinhardt (Kathy Straub) and Karen (Dr. Edward) Feldman. She is also survived by two stepchildren, Gerald (Patty) McLaughlin and Gwendolyn Fellenberger as well as one sister Ann Haakonstad. Ruth was very proud of her six grandchildren Dr. Heather (Ray) Figueira, Jeremy (Rebecca) Molenda, Louise (Darryl) Coch, Gordon R. McLaughlin, Edna McLaughlin and Brian McLaughlin. She treasured her great grandchildren Kayleigh Figueira, Grady and Cailin Molenda, Kay, Denver and Colt McLaughlin and Darryl and Derek Coch. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by a stepson Gordon Howard (Rita) McLaughlin, sister Lydia Stowell, brother John Eremo and a step grandson Jerry McLaughlin. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Fountain View of Monroe for the kind, competent and compassionate care given to Ruth and her family. A thank you also goes to Mercy Memorial Hospice for their kind assistance in the Ruth’s final days. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ruth’s favorite charity the Humane Society of Monroe County, 15649 S. Telegraph Rd. Monroe, MI 48161. Visitation will be from 4PM until 8PM on Friday, Sept. 19th at the Bacarella Funeral Home at 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI 48161. The funeral service will be held Sat. Sept .20th, at 11 AM at the funeral home with Reverend James Carper officiating. Interment will follow at Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock, MI.
