Robert D. "Bob" Harris, 82, a lifetime resident of Monroe, passed away very peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Monday, August 24, 2015, at Promedica Monroe Regional Hospital. He had been seriously ill since entering the hospital a week ago.
He was born January 23, 1933 in Monroe to Delbert and Lucille (Duvall) Harris. Bob was a 1950 graduate of Monroe High School , and went on to marry his love , JoAnn M. Heck on June 28, 1952 at Calvary Church.
Bob was employed by the City of Monroe as the Building Inspector for 22 years, and prior to that he was a home builder retiring in 1993.
Bob was a very active member of Heritage United Methodist Church, where he formerly served as a trustee and treasurer. He helped restore the building and church.
He, and JoAnn, wintered in Fort Meyers, FL for the last 20 years, where they were member of the Moose Lodge, #1899, he also was a member of the Monroe Michigan Good Time Cruiser car club in Monroe, where he enjoyed showing his 1967 Dodge Dart and 1969 Dodge Coronet, but especially enjoyed camping, fishing , gardening, and most of all his attending grandchildren's sporting events.
He leaves to cherish the memories, his wife; 3 children, Randy A. (Diane) Harris, Robyn (William Churchill) Seals-Churchill , and Roger D. (Lori) Harris, all of Monroe; a sister, Betty Schindler of Monroe; 6 grandchildren, Suzanne (Ben) Liedel, Stephen J. Seals, George M. (Hillary) Harris, Casey Harris, Chelsea L. (Zachary) Dluzen, Charles W. Harris; and 2 great grandchildren; Carson and Brooklyn Liedel.
Sadly, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Marvin J. Harris, son-in-law, John M. Seals, and godson, Dale R. Schultz.
Visitation will be held at the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Road, from 1-8 PM on Wednesday, August 26. Services to honor him will take place on Thursday, at the funeral home, at 11 AM. Rev. Cecil Lewis will officiate, and burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
