Nick Jackson

Nick Jackson, 84 years, of Monroe, MI, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 9:00 pm in his home, surrounded by his loving family and under the tender care of Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe. Born May 8, 1926 in Clairton, PA, Nick was the son of the late Nicholas and Mildred (Vinovich) Yackich (Jackson). Nick served his country honorably and proudly during World War II as a Private in the US Army. Nick served from September 4, 1944 until he was honorably discharged on December 5, 1946. Nick served in the Pacific Theater and for his meritorious service he was awarded the following; Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal with 1 Bronze Star, the Philippine Liberation Medal with 1 Bronze Star, the Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. On June 17, 1948 in Monroe, MI, Nick married his beloved wife the former Jean Ann Knegendorf. Sadly she preceded him in death on June 22, 2005 after 57 years of marriage. Nick was employed as a maintenance man for Ford Motor Company’s Monroe Plant for 30 years from which he retired in 1980. Nick was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of VFW Post 1138. Nick’s memory is cherished by his 6 loving children: Nick (Jill) Jackson Jr. of Peshtigo, WI; Charles (BethAnn) Jackson of Monroe; Michael (Aleta) Jackson of Monroe; David Jackson of Monroe; Mildred (Timothy) Terry of Howell, MI and Mary (Rick) Jackson-Clark of Monroe, 15 cherished grandchildren, 22 treasured great grandchildren and 4 siblings: Steve (Mary Lee) Musulin of Richmond, VA; John (Carol) Musulin of Saginaw, MI; Mary (Ray) Cooley of Monroe and Cecelia Musulin of Monroe. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, Nick was preceded in death by a daughter Cynthia Marie Jackson, his stepfather Steve Musulin and a sister Anita Fanfera. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-8 pm in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe where funeral services celebrating Nick’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
