Nettie "Jean" Massingill

Nettie Jean (Timberlake) Massingill, 87 years, of Erie, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg, Ohio. Born January 27, 1931 in Lorado, West Virginia, Jean was the daughter of the late Harold and Clara (Woodrum) Timberlake. The family moved to Monroe in 1942. Jean attended Lincoln Elementary School. On September 9, 1947 Jean married her beloved husband, Warren P. Massingill in Middlesboro, Kentucky. Sadly, Warren preceded her in death on February 23, 2015 after 67 years of marriage. Jean was employed as a hi lo driver and an inspector by Dial Corporation which became Sinclare Manufacturing in Toledo, OH for 17 years, from which she retired in 1984. She was also a wonderful homemaker. Jean was a woman of devout faith and was a member of Stewart Road Church of God. She was also a member of Teamsters Local 20 in Toledo. She enjoyed reading, gardening, bird watching and watching the Detroit Tigers. Jean was a wonderful southern cook. Her specialty, which everyone enjoyed, was biscuits and gravy. Most of all Jean enjoyed time spent with family. Jean is survived by eight loving children: Richard A. (Patty) Massingill of Vine Grove, Kentucky, Timothy W. (Joann) Massingill of Toledo, OH, Joey E. (Shari) Massingill of Luna Pier, MI, Cathy L. Stark of East Jordan, MI, Jacki S. Kehr of Temperance, MI, Sally A. (Floyd) Martin of LaSalle, MI, Julie L. McDonald Massingill of Erie, MI, and Jeannie E. (Robert) Yonkee of Erie, MI, 18 cherished grandchildren, 23 treasured great grandchildren, and 4 precious great great grandchildren. . In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Jean was preceded in death by a grandson; Luke Yonkee, a granddaughter; Jodi Lynn Whited, two sons in law; Bob Kehr and Chuck Hawley, and five sisters; Ruby Scheffel, Thelma Hager, Margie Marldi, Edna Ferguson, and Ruth Carroll. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI, 48161 where funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Jean’s daughter, the Rev. Sally A. Martin, Chaplain at Mercy St. Charles Hospital in Oregon, OH, will officiate. Following the funeral service she will be interred next to her husband at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested to Stewart Road Church of God’s Music Fund or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
