Mildred Hawkins

Mildred J. Hawkins, 82 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord, joining her beloved husband, Ted, on Thursday, April 22, 2021. Born May 20, 1938 in Speedwell, Tennessee, Mildred was the daughter of the late Austin M. and Mary M. (Orick) Turner. Mildred’s family moved to Monroe in 1942. Mildred attended Monroe Public Schools and Monroe High School. On October 13, 1956, Mildred married her beloved husband, Larry T. “Ted” Hawkins in Monroe. Sadly, Ted preceded her in death on April 11, 2021, after 64 years of marriage. Mildred was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family, however she worked outside her home at Pathway Day Care at Stewart Road Church of God. Mildred was a former member of Bible Fellowship Church and First Wesleyan Church, and was currently a member of Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church. Mildred was very involved in her churches, serving on the church’s boards, children’s ministry, taught Sunday School, was the Bible School Director, served on the funeral luncheon committee and along with her husband Ted, really enjoyed singing together for church ministry’s. Mildred was also involved in the church missions and enjoyed packing shoe boxes for Operations Christmas Child Samaritans Purse. She also enjoyed crocheting, spending time with friends and helping those in need. Most of all Mildred enjoyed time spent with family, especially her Saturday breakfast gatherings that she made her homemade biscuits and gravy. Mildred is survived by three loving sons; Timothy M. Hawkins of Holland, OH, Daniel M. (Teresa) Hawkins and Joe L. (Dee) Hawkins, both of Monroe, nine cherished grandchildren, 13 treasured great grandchildren, and two siblings; Joann Stoner and Ada M. Turner, both of Monroe. In addition to her husband Ted, Mildred was preceded in death by a son, Keith, a grandson, Ethan, a sister, Hazel Leach, and four brothers; Doyle, Hoyle, Kenneth and Junior. Visitation for both Ted and Mildred will be held on Monday from 1-8 pm in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI, 48161, where funeral services celebrating their life will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
