Margaret L. Brooks

Margaret L. Brooks, 76 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 14, 2013 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born March 27, 1937, in Monroe, Margaret was the daughter of the late Horace Jackson and Nellie Florence (Cadle) Shopshire. Margaret attended Monroe Public Schools and was a 1955 graduate of Monroe High School. On September 3, 1960 Margaret married her beloved husband Robert D. Brooks at the First Wesleyan Church in Monroe, The Rev. A.S. Joppie performed the ceremony. Margaret worked as a teller for Monroe Bank and Trust from 1955-1965, as a lunch room assistant for Monroe Public Schools from 1978 to 2004 and as caregiver for Pathway Child Care at Stewart Road Church of God from 1978 until her retirement in 2006. Margaret was a member of Stewart Road Church of God where she taught Vacation Bible School and Family Training Hour Class. Margaret enjoyed reading and exchanging books with friends and family, watching movies and walking with her sister. Margaret was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed caring for her family, she especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and planning for their Christmas. Margaret is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Bob, two loving children: Robin Margaret (Aaron) Setzler of LaSalle, MI and Michael Robert Brooks of Redding, CA, four cherished grandchildren: Shawn (Desire’e) Setzler, Corey (Mallory) Setzler, Bailey and Jackson Setzler, six treasured great grandchildren: Delaney, Braden, Michaela, and Sydney Setzler, Destine’e Daniels and DeLane Johnson, five siblings: Robert Shosphire of Monroe, Jay Shopshire of Monroe, Billy (Lydia) Shopshire of Boulder City, NV, Joe Shopshire of Monroe and Bootsie (Wayne) Asher of Monroe and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter: Emily Brooke Setzler, sisters in law: Agnes, Margaret, Shirley, and Rosie and a brother in law: Jay. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe.. On Wednesday, December 18, 2013, she will lie in state at Stewart Road Church of God from 10:00 AM until funeral services, celebrating her life at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Joseph Byrd, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe or Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center.
