Maecella Cavanaugh

Maecella Atwood Cavanaugh, 93 years, of Monroe, MI went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 3:30 AM at Fountain View of Monroe. Born September 30, 1919 in Detroit, MI, Marcie was the daughter of the late Lester and Delphine (Pfluge) Spencer. Marcie attended Monroe Public School. She went on to further her education by attending Executive Training School at The Boston Store in Chicago, IL. Marcie was employed as an executive for the LaSalle Division of Macy’s Department Store in Toledo, OH for 29 years. She retired in 1975. On October 2, 1937 Marcie married her beloved husband Henry A. Atwood in Newport, MI. Sadly, he preceded her in death on April 3, 1981. Finding love a second time, Marcie then married Richard P. Cavanaugh September 24, 1983 at Christ Lutheran Church. Sadly, he too preceded her in death on July 19, 1992. Marcie was a 60 year member of Christ Lutheran Church in Monroe where she sang in the choir. Marcie was very civic minded and was a member of the Thrift Shop of Monroe, Altrusa, General Federated Women’s Club, Eastern Star, and was a life member of The Sawyer Homestead. Marcie also sang for 10 ten years with the Sweet Adeline’s, River Raisin Chapter in Monroe. Marcie enjoyed playing cards, gardening, crocheting, square dancing, and camping. Most of all Marcie enjoyed family. Marcie is survived by her loving daughter in law: Judie A. Atwood of Monroe, four cherished grandchildren: Gregory S. (Alison) Atwood of Columbiaville, MI, Kimberly S. (Bruce) Doig of Nashville, MI, Todd M. (Sandra) Atwood of Monroe, and Chad A. Atwood of Monroe, and four treasured great grandchildren: Sara, Spencer, Aaron, and Nathan. In addition to her parents and husbands, Marcie was preceded in death by her son Spencer Atwood. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe, MI, 48161. On Friday, July 26, 2013 she will lie in state at Christ Lutheran Church in Monroe from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating her life at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Dennis Bux, pastor of the church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
