Lorraine Manning

Lorraine Manning, 87 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Mercy Memorial Hospital. Born May 21, 1926 in Speedwell, TN, Lorraine was the daughter of the late Robert Jesse and Lillie Jane (Welch) Lane. Lorraine was a 1944 graduate of Powell Valley High School, Powell Valley, TN. She went on to further her education and received an associate’s degree from Knoxville Business College, Knoxville, TN. On January 5, 1949 Lorraine married Andy Manning in Pineville, KY. Sadly, he preceded her in death on August 4, 1953. Shortly after Andy’s death, Lorraine moved to Monroe. Lorraine worked during WWII at the Oak Ridge Atomic Center. After moving to Monroe she worked as a secretary for Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. She then worked as Medical Transcriptionist for Mercy Memorial Hospital for 24 years from which she retired in 1991. After retirement, Lorraine went back to work as a secretary for Dundee Baptist Church from which she retired in 2006. Lorraine was a very active member of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and worked with the Girl’s Auxiliary and the Baptist Training Union. She was also a member of the WMU and the JOYS, helped with Vacation Bible School, was a delegate to the Southern Baptist Convention of Michigan, as well as serving on several committees at the church. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and family. Lorraine is survived by two loving sons: Roger S. (Sue) Manning of Temperance, MI and David A. Manning of Monroe, six grandchildren: Deena (Eric) Remley, Melissa (Andy) Kohuth, Emily (Nick) Berry, Michael, Aaron and Katy Smith, seven great grandchildren: Madeline, Morgan, Carson, Ava, Brennan, Mara, and Rowan. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and eight sisters. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-7 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI 48161. On Monday, April 7, 2014 she will lie in state at Monroe Missionary Baptist Church from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating her life at 11:00 AM. Rev. Roy Southerland, pastor of the church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested to Monroe Missionary Baptist Church.
