Lenroy James "Jim" Sellers

Lenroy James "Jim" Sellers, 69 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Vibrant Life Senior Living in Temperance, Michigan. Born January 21, 1949 in Monroe, Jim was the son of the late Edwin J. and Shirley H. (Brock) Sellers. He was a 1967 graduate of Monroe High School and received an associate's degree from Wayne State University. Jim served his country honorably and proudly in the United States Army in Vietnam. Jim served from September 6, 1967 to April 10, 1969. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. On September 25, 1970 Jim married his beloved wife, the former Yvonne F. Wall at Zion Lutheran Church in Monroe. Jim went through the four year apprenticeship program to become a journeyman pipefitter and was employed by Local 671 in Monroe until his retirement in December of 2010. Jim was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as a board member, was an usher, and enjoyed helping with the spring cleanup for the church grounds. He was a life member of VFW Post 1138, volunteered for Toys for Tots and Paula's House. He was also instrumental with the installation of the Vietnam Memorial at Heck Park and the WWII Memorial at Veterans Park. He enjoyed reading. Most of all Jim enjoyed time spent with family and friends. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years; Yvonne, two loving daughters; Renee N. (Jason) Bullard of Ottawa Lake, MI, and Amanda K. (Aaron) Winslow of Lambertville, MI, two cherished grandsons; Evan Bullard and Parker Winslow, and two sisters; Sandy (Eugene) Howerton of Harrison, MI and Sue (Ned) Gatchell of Fort Wayne, IN. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-7 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI 48161. On Tuesday, May 1, 2018 he will lie in state at Zion Lutheran Church from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating his life at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Ross Ulrich, pastor of the church, will officiate. In keeping with Jim's wishes cremation will follow. Memorial contributions are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church or Paula's House.
