Monroe County's local foodie, recipe aficionado and longtime Monroe News recipe writer best known for her community outreach efforts has died. Kimberly "Kim" Blair Domick of Monroe died unexpectedly Tuesday while on vacation in Clearwater, Fla., according to relatives. She was 58. She is survived by a brother, Paul, mother, Julie, and canine companion. “We at The Monroe News are deeply saddened at the sudden loss of our friend, Kim," said Ray Kisonas, regional editor of The Monroe News. "She was a talented chef and writer who had the abilities to make food delicious as well as entertaining and informative. Our deepest condolences to her family and friends. "She will be missed by us, her Monroe News family, and her readers.” Domick was a lifelong resident and graduate of Monroe High School. For a time, she lived in Asheville, N.C. Kim Domick is pictured in Asheville, N.C., where she once lived. Within the past five years, she became prominently involved in the Thrift Shop Association of Monroe, a second-hand store which donates its proceeds to the local community. But friends say she had grown up with the organization because she often joined her mother to volunteer at the shop as a child. She became known for creating eye-catching window displays for the store on S. Monroe St. "If you know Kim at all, you know she was a very generous person, and I couldn't do my job without her," said Lorey Roop, Thrift Shop manager. "I don't know how I will go on without her." Although dedicated to the Thrift Shop, many knew Domick as a food extraordinaire, keeping a wealth of recipes, having connections with local restauranteurs and sharing her craft with countless members of the local community. She was a regular contributor to The Monroe News, sharing recipes with readers in the Sunday "Living" section, along with writing many feature stories on local restaurants and notable community members. Her most recent piece on Chasen's famous chili was published Feb. 21. She also wrote stories and recipes for Monroe Magazine, with her most recent piece expected to publish in the Spring 2021 issue being inserted in Sunday's edition. "I saved all of her articles to give them to her so she could send them to family," Roop said. "She was always so proud of her work, and rightfully so." Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Domick also used her passion for cooking to give back to others. She created a food outreach program with other members of the community, cooking and delivering meals to those in need, mostly seniors and the homebound. On Feb. 2, she prepared pot roast with vegetables, broccoli soup, cheddar rolls and dessert for the 48th consecutive meal, according to her Facebook page. "She was one of my heroes during the pandemic. Her ministry of delivering meals every week was incredible," Jean Hudkins McManaway of Monroe posted Wednesday on Facebook. "I am so sorry for all of my Thrift Shop friends. Such a beautiful person." Over the years, Domick also hosted many private catering events, including weddings, graduation parties, baby showers and other milestone events or private parties. She loved taking pictures of her food. Sometimes, Domick also gave food lectures and taught adult culinary classes hosted by Monroe County Community College. "She never complained, and you could always rely on her if you needed her," Roop said. "I think we are feeling the loss." In accordance with Kim’s wishes there will be no services.
