Kenneth Floyd Thorn

Kenneth Floyd Thorn, 73 years, of Nauvoo, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Born June 2, 1943 in Monroe, Michigan, Kenny was the son of Floyd C. and Anne (Fountain) Thorn. Kenny grew up in Newport and attended Airport High School. He served his country proudly as a United States Marine, where he finished his high school education and received his diploma. On July 3, 1965 Kenny married his beloved wife, the former Shirley Keeton in Wyandotte, MI. They moved to Nauvoo in 1974. Kenny was employed as a certified machinist at Premier Industries in Monroe for 10 years. While in Alabama he worked for Drummonds Machine Shop, Chicago Bridge and Iron, Co., CeDrum Mining and Shoal Creek Mining Company from which he took a medical retirement in 2000. Kenny attended New Bethel Full Gospel Church of God. He enjoyed cars, watching and attending NASCAR events, Gospel and country music and spending time in the Smokey Mountains. He also enjoyed college football and was a fan of the Michigan Wolverines, but while living in Alabama he became a fan of the Crimson Tide. His last great joy was purchasing a 2015 Dodge Charger R-T Hemi. Most of all Kenny loved time spent with family, especially his granddaughter where he enjoyed attending her dance recital’s. Kenny is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Shirley, a loving son, Kenneth Kepp (Connie) Thorn of Decatur, AL, where Kenny served as best man at their wedding, a cherished granddaughter, Sophia Grace, his mother Anne Thorn of Newport, MI, his twin sister Kathryn “Katie” Thorn – Patterson of Monroe, MI, a nephew, Adam Thorn a niece Angela Yentz and many great nieces and nephews. Sadly, he was preceded in death by his father, a sister Karon Thorn and his three precious companions, his dogs: Angel, Biscuit, and Bailey. The family would like to share these words from scripture. Philippians 4:7 “and the peace of God, which surpassed all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”. Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 in Jasper, Alabama. The Bacarella Funeral Home assisted the family in Monroe.
