John Gray Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

John Perry Gray, 66, of Monroe, MI passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, OH. Born December 16, 1946 in Ann Arbor, MI, Perry was the son of John Francis III and Inez (Perry) Gray. Perry was a 1964 graduate of Culver Military Academy in Culver, IN. Perry went on to further his education by attending both Kenyon College and the University of Michigan. On October 20, 1966, Perry married his beloved wife the former Betty Jayne Argo in Plymouth, MI. They met and fell in love while working at The Iroquois Hotel on Mackinac Island, MI. Perry started out his career as a reporter for the Toledo Times. He later became a reporter for both The Toledo Blade and the Monroe Evening News. Perry then went to work as a real estate broker and manager for Grogan Realty's Monroe office. Perry then started his own real estate company, Gray Realty in Monroe. Perry had a great love for his country and served in the United States National Guard. He was a member of the Monroe Elks Club, Sertoma Club and the Monroe Golf and Country Club. Perry enjoyed sailing, golfing, softball, bowling, traveling, music and writing. Most of all Perry loved his family and friends. Perry is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Betty; his mother, Inez Gray of Greenville, TX; three loving children: Laurel D. Gray of Chicago, IL, John Francis (Ellen) Gray, IV of Chicago, IL and J. Perry Gray, Jr. of Ferndale, MI and two cherished grandchildren: John Francis Gray, VI and Hayley Allyson Gray. Sadly, Perry was preceded in death by his father. Perry's family will greet friends and share stories to celebrate his life on Friday, May 10th, 2013 from 2-8 p.m. at the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe, MI.
