John H. DeLisle

John H. DeLisle, 94 years, active in community organizations and retired Vice President and member of the Board of Directors of the Monroe Auto equipment Company, Monroe, MI, went home to be with the Lord, on Friday, January 31, 2013 at the Kingston Residence in Sylvania, OH. Born April 13, 1919 in Monroe, MI, John was the son of the late John J. and Viola (Leonard) DeLisle. John married the former Ruth E. Ready in Toledo, OH at the Catholic Cathedral on April 15, 1939. Sadly she preceded him in death on December 11, 2012 after 73 years of marriage. A 1938 graduate of Monroe High School, John served in the United States Army from 1944 until his discharge on December 19, 1945. He was wounded in action November 22, 1944 while with the 80th Infantry Division of Patton’s 3rd Army. John earned the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Combat Infantry Men’s Badge and the European Theatre Ribbon with 2 Battle Stars, WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. John Also served 4 years in MNG and 2 years in the CAP. After discharge John began working at Monroe Auto Equipment Company until his retirement on January 1, 1980. John was a past Trustee of The Monroe Board of Education, President of Monroe Golf and Country Club, member of the Board of Directors of First National Bank and Security Bank in Monroe, Trustee of Mercy Memorial Hospital, board member of the Mercy Memorial Foundation and Mercy Memorial Community Health Services, Futurama Inc., Out Island Inn Ltd., Junior Achievement of Monroe, M.O.R.E. Inc., and the Monroe Club. John was a past member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, American Ordinance Association, National Management Association, National Association of Manufacturers, Economic Club of Detroit, and the Wolverine Council of Boy Scouts. John’s current memberships include the Monroe Golf and Country Club, Knights of Columbus, Elks, Disabled American Vets, V.F.W. and A.S.R.P., Monroe Club, YMCA and St. John The Baptist Catholic Church. John is survived by two loving children: Frank P. (Susan) DeLisle of Indianapolis, IN and Carol A. (Jerry) Fuller of Sylvania, OH and Jensen Beach, FL, a daughter in law Sheryl Moreno of Monroe, a son in law Dale Spence of South Carolina, 12 cherished grandchildren: David Yates, Anne (William) Beckman, James (Amy) DeLisle, William Parker III, Theresa (James) Holland, Christy Parker, Greg (Lessa) Yates, Jeffery (Amanda) Fuller, Jason (Polly) Yates, Brian (Melissa) Fuller, Patrick (Katie) DeLisle, Haleigh DeLisle, 19 treasured great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, John was preceded in death by a son John H. DeLisle, Jr., two daughters: Marilyn Spence and Diane Parker, and a granddaughter: Debbie Boyde. On Thursday, February 6, 2014 he will lie in state at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Monroe from 9:30 AM until Mass of the Resurrection, celebrating his life at 11:00 AM. Fr. James Smalarz, pastor of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, will officiate. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe, where the VFW Post 1138 will conduct military honors. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. John The Baptist Catholic Church. The Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd.
