James Robert Watterson

James Robert Watterson, 72 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, OH. Born April 22, 1945 in Toledo, OH, Jim was the son of the late Carl and Marie (Farren) Watterson. Jim was raised in Toledo and was a 1963 graduate of Olney High School. He excelled and lettered in baseball, football and basketball. Jim married his beloved wife, the former Mary Anne Duvall on April 16, 1996, in Toledo, Ohio Jim worked for Tastee bread as a bread man for 32 years until the company moved out of the area at which time he finished his career with Wonder bread for the last 10 years retiring in 2005. After retiring Jim continued to work at Nortel Lanes where he loved sharing his knowledge of bowling Jim was a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Monroe. He was an avid bowler in the Michigan and Ohio area over his lifetime. Jim was honored with Bowler of the Year in Toledo and was an inductee of the Monroe Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2009. He also enjoyed golf and time spending time with friends. Jim was a fan of the Detroit Tigers and The Ohio State University Buckeyes. Most of all Jim loved family. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 21 years Mary Anne, seven loving children: Richard (Lisa) Watterson of Toledo, Amy (Jude) Hagan of Lebanon, KY, Jeffrey (Maria) Watterson of Monroe, Norman (Angela) Watterson of Flat Rock, Alayna (Ryan) Akens of Lambertville, James Ross Watterson of Monroe, and Ty (Wendy) Guthrie of Monroe, 13 cherished grandchildren, three treasured great grandchildren and four siblings: Vicki Lawniczak of Toledo, Pam (Chuck) Yaeger of Florida, Ron (Donna) Watterson of Georgia and Rocky (Angie) Watterson of Toledo. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother: Thomas Watterson. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. Monroe, MI 48161. On Tuesday, July 11, 2017 he will lie in state at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church from 10:00 until Mass of the Resurrection celebrating his life at 11:00 AM. Fr. Raymond Arwady, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe.
