James L. Raymo

James L. Raymo, age 88 of Monroe, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 21st, at the home of his daughter, Pennie. Born August 11, 1933 in Monroe, Jim was the son of the late Roland and Loretta (Ahrendt) Raymo. He attended Monroe Public Schools and, on his 18th birthday in 1951, Jim married Norine M. Oberlin in Monroe. Together they raised five children. Sadly, Norine preceded Jim in death on November 9, 2011. Jim had a long career in the Auto Manufacturing Industry. As a Pattern Maker/Model Maker, he was employed by Ford Motor Company for 17 years and then by General Motors for 13 years before retiring in 1996. Jim was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Monroe Council 1266 Knights of Columbus, National Rifle Association, and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA). He was also a former Boy Scout Troop Leader and an avid 4-Wheeler and deer hunter. Jim had a shared interest in flying with his brother Chuck, who also had a pilot’s license. They often enjoyed spending time flying together. Surviving Jim are his children: Jamie (Jeff) Poupard of Monroe, Randy (Shirley) Raymo of Petersburg, Pennie Iott (Tom) Clark of Monroe, Jeff (Nora) Raymo of Monroe, and James (JoAnn) Raymo of Minnetonka, MN; two siblings, Arthur “Skip” Raymo and Betty (Tom) Schnorberger, both of Monroe; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Jim was also preceded in death by a grandson, Dustin Iott; son-in-law, Philip Iott; and brothers Roland, Jr., Robert, and Charles Raymo. Family and friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bacarella Funeral Home where Monroe Council 1266 Knights of Columbus will lead a Litany/Rosary service at 6 p.m. Jim will lie in state at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church. At 10:30 a.m., Rev. Fr. David Burgard will celebrate Mass of Christian Burial followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to St. Mary Catholic Church or Monroe Council 1266 Knights of Columbus.
