Helen West

Helen I. (Meyers) West, 82 years, of Monroe, MI went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 26, 2012 in Mercy Memorial Nursing Care Center under the tender care of Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe. Helen had been in declining health for the past 2 years. Born June 30, 1929 in New Tazewell, TN, Helen was the daughter of the late Frank and Minnie (Minton) Meyers. On March 27, 1948 Helen married her beloved husband Sherman M. West in Knoxville, TN. Helen and Sherman moved to Monroe in 1952 to raise their family. Sadly, Sherman preceded Helen in death on April 22, 1989. Helen was a charter member of Grape Missionary Baptist Church and its Heavens Helpers Women’s Group. A wonderful homemaker, Helen enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and quilting. She made the very best Christmas cookies. More than anything Helen was devoted to and loved her family. Helen is survived by three loving children: Sherman M. (Julie) West Jr. of Monroe, Phyllis Case of Ida, and Jackie (Ronald) Barnes of Milan, seven cherished grandchildren: Shelly, Stacey, Kristina, Derek, Charles “CJ”, Krystal, and Ronnie, six treasured great grandchildren: Samantha, Melissa, Jacob, Nathan, Deven and Reese, two adored great great grandsons: Darius and Karson, a brother: James Willard “Bill” Meyers of New Tazewell, TN, a sister: Joyce Watson of Tazewell, TN and a daughter in law: Sharon West of Ida. In addition to her beloved husband of 41 years, Sherman and her parents, Helen was preceded in death by a daughter: Christine West, a son: Dennis H. West, two grandsons: Chuck Case and Johnathon Barnes, four brothers: Carson, Harrison, Dello and Arvol Meyers, and four sisters: Gladys Watson, Eula Mae Loveday, Inez Keck, and Katherine Yensch. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 5-8 PM and on Sunday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe where funeral services celebrating Helen’s life will be held on Monday, April 30, 2012 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Bobby Smith, pastor of Grape Missionary Baptist Church, the Rev. John Bullard Jr. and the Rev. Nathan Clawson will officiate. Interment will follow at Rath Cemetery in Raisinville Township. ?
