Ellenor Heiss

Ellenor M. Heiss, 88 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Mercy Memorial Nursing Care Center in Monroe. Born May 6, 1925 in Carleton, MI, Ellenor was the daughter of the late Dewey and Lucy (Younglove) Batway. Ellenor was a 1943 graduate of Carleton High School. On February 26, 1944 Ellenor married her beloved husband, Clayton J. Heiss in Scofield, MI. Ellenor was employed as a bus driver for Monroe Public Schools for 15 years. She retired in 1986. She was also a wonderful homemaker. Ellenor enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Ellenor was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Monroe, where she served as superintendant of the fourth grade Sunday School Class. Ellenor was very active in the Order of Eastern Star. Ellenor served as President of the Lenawee/Monroe County Association, Life Member of the River Raisin Order of Eastern Star #208 in Petersburg, where she served three times as Worthy Matron and as Secretary for many years, Honorary Life member of the Grand Chapter and Past Appointive Grand Officer. Ellenor was also Mother Advisor of the Monroe Assembly #25 International Order of Rainbow for Girls. Ellenor is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Clayton, two loving children Thomas A. Heiss I of Monroe, and Patricia A. Heiss, a cherished grandson Thomas A. Heiss II of Monroe, three treasured great grandchildren, and a brother Gene A. Batway of Taylor, MI. In addition to her parents, Ellenor was preceded in death by a sister Lucille Batway and two brothers: Harold and Charles Batway. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI 48161, where an Order of Eastern Star Service will be held at 7:00 PM that evening. Funeral services celebrating Ellenor’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 11:00 AM also at the funeral home. The Rev. Rev. Von Loop will officiate. In keeping with Ellenor’s wishes cremation will be held after her funeral services and she will be interred at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested to The American Diabetes Association or to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Monroe.
