Dorothy L. Nogar

Dorothy L. Nogar, 89 years, of Monroe, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe. Born January 2, 1925 in Sycamore, IL, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Sydnor M. and Adeline (Kosanke) Broadus. Dorothy's family moved to Monroe when she was a child. Dorothy attended school in Monroe and was a 1942 graduate of St. Mary's Academy On October 8, 1955 Dorothy married her beloved husband Frank Nogar, Jr. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Monroe. Sadly, he preceded her in death on August 31, 2013 after 57 years of marriage. Dorothy worked for Detroit Stoker, Dr. J.P. Flanders, Dr. A. Esther Johnson and Dr. Dale Douglas. Although Dorothy worked outside the home, she was also a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, gardening, and entertaining friends and family in her home. However her greatest pleasure was caring for her family and being another mom to many of her daughter’s friends. Dorothy was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church where she was very active in church circles. She served on several church boards and committees including United Methodist Women. She also assisted with the church's salad luncheons and funeral dinners. Dorothy was a Campfire Leader for Campfire for Girls, and a Mother Advisor for the Order of Rainbow For Girls. Other memberships included; Lotus Garden Club, Business and Professional Women of Monroe and Monroe Women's Republican Club. Dorothy is survived by her loving daughter: Ruth Anne DeGraaf of Monroe, a nephew: Douglas (Julie) Jensen – McWethy of Hercules, CA, and a niece: Dianne (James) Stitzlein of Chesterfield, MO. In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by a sister Barbara Grant. Visitation will be held on Friday from 3-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe where a memorial service celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Evans Bentley will officiate. In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes cremation and interment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Paul’s’ United Methodist Church or The Humane Society of Monroe County.
