Clayton J. Heiss

Clayton J. Heiss, 90 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 22, 2014. Born, August 15, 1923 in Trenton, Michigan, Clayton was the son of the late Harry H. and Alma (Hoerl) Heiss. Clayton was a 1941 graduate of Flat Rock High School. On February 26, 1944, Clayton married his beloved wife, the former Ellenor M. Batway in Scofield, Michigan. Sadly, Ellenor preceded him in death on July 27, 2013 after 69 years of marriage. Clayton was employed at Ford Motor Company for 39½ years working at the Monroe Plant. He retired in 1981 as a tool and die maker leader. Clayton was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church where he served on the church board and taught Sunday School. Clayton was a member of The Monroe Lodge #27 F&AM where he was a past Secretary and The Blanchard Lodge #102 F&AM where he was a past Worshipful Master. Clayton served as the High Priest for the Royal Arch Mason’s and the Moslem Shrine. Clayton served as the past Patron of the Order of Easter Star eleven times. Clayton also served as the Grand Representative of Ontario in Michigan Order of Eastern Star. Clayton served as a Dad and Chapter Advisor for Demolay. Clayton was awarded the Royal Arch Mason of the Year in 1986 and in 2006 Clayton was awarded the Mason and District Mason of The Year. In his spare time Clayton enjoyed woodworking. Clayton is survived by two loving children, Thomas A. Heiss I of Monroe, and Patricia A. Heiss, a cherished grandson: Thomas A. Heiss II of Monroe, three treasured great grandchildren: Logan, Taylor, and Isabella, a sister: Delores Dietrich of Fort Myers, FL and a half sister: Karen (Larry) Robart of East Pointe, MI. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, Clayton was preceded in death by a sister Marilyn. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161, where an O.E.S service will begin at 6:30 PM immediately followed by a Masonic Service. On Thursday, February 27, 2014 funeral services celebrating Clayton’s life will be held at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. The Rev. Von Loop will officiate. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
