Charles W. Nocella

Charles W. Nocella, 86 years, of Monroe, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Promedica Flower Hospital in Sylvania, OH. Born November 12, 1931 in Monroe, Michigan, Charles was the son of the late Sunday and Florence (Heath) Nocella. Charles was a graduate of Monroe High School. In 1948 Charles joined the Air Force from 1948-1952 and was stationed in Bermuda as a staff sergeant; he also was a hydraulic mechanic. On November 21, 1953 he married his beloved wife, Yvonne Standifer in Monroe. He met his beloved wife at Independent Dairy where she worked as an ice cream scooper. They continued to date until they got married. Charles and Yvonne were married for 58 years until she passed away on September 5, 2012. Charles worked for 17 years for Banas & Wrobel in Maybee, Michigan. For 32 years, he worked for La-Z-Boy and was superintendent of its Neosho, Mo., plant and vice president of its Siloam Springs, Ark., and Tremonton, Utah, facilities. In 1985, he became vice president of manufacturing for La-Z-Boy in Monroe, retiring in 1996. Charles enjoyed fly fishing, hunting and playing euchre. He was a huge sports fan, loving U of M football, Tigers and the Lions. Most of all Charles loved time spent with family. Charles is survived by five loving children: Bob and Elizabeth Nocella of Albuquerque, N.M; Paula and the Rev. Doug Handrich of Peoria, Ill.; Phil and Dawn Nocella of Monroe; Greg and Marty Nocella of Newport; Jeff and Lori Nocella of Temperance; 12 cherished grandchildren; and 8 treasured great grandchildren; Three siblings; Nora Nocella, Viola & Robert Krug, and Larry & Barbara Nocella. Along with his beloved wife Yvonne, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; Luella and Patricia; and an infant brother, Roger. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Road, Monroe, MI, 48161 from 2-8 PM. On Saturday, January 6, 2018 he will lie in state at Zion Lutheran Church from 10:00 AM until the funeral services at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Ross Ulrich and Pastor Daniel Slaughter will officiate. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church.
