Carl Manis

Carl L. Manis, 75, of Newport went to rest with his Heavenly Father after being ill for several months. He passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 in his home with his loving family by his side. He was born April 24, 1933 in Middlesboro, KY; the son of M. Onlee (Bussell) Neice and Carl Preston Manis. Carl served in the United States Army and was retired from CSX Railroad. He married the love of his life, Connie Brough on April 15, 1972. He is survived by his mother, M. Onlee Neice of Monroe; his adored wife of 36 years, Connie Manis, of Newport and their children together: Melissa Motschenbacher (husband Scott) of Holly, MI and Monica Lee (husband Matthew) of Saginaw, MI. Also surviving are his cherished grandchildren Makenzie, Peyton & Makayla Motschenbacher, and Gavin & Taylor Lee. Carl is also survived by his sister, Bobbie Tays of Monroe and additional family Carl, Karen Sue, Marcia and their children. He was preceeded in death by his father, Carl Preston Manis. Carl was an avid horseman; horses were his passion. At the tender age of seven, he traded a bicycle for his first horse and it multiplied from there. During his lifetime, Carl has owned thousands of horses. Throughout that time, he had enjoyed enormous success. He bred, raised and trained nationally ranked Quarter Horses. Carl also enjoyed playing almost any card game, but favored those that became playfully “heated” with those he loved! He also enjoyed nature, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and being surrounded by his treasured family and friends. In recent years, he acquired a cabin in northern Michigan with the intent of providing a family retreat. Many enjoyable holidays and family outings were spent there; it was his idea of paradise. In recent years, Carl committed his life to Christ. He enjoyed attending numerous worship services with his family including those at New Hope Lutheran Church, in Flat Rock, where he was a member. Family and friends may visit from 2:00 pm-9:00 pm on Friday, August 15, 2008 at the Bacarella Funeral Home. An additional visitation will also be available on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 10:00 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am. Reverend Frank Martin, of New Hope Lutheran Church, will be officiating. Carl’s final resting place will be at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, LaSalle.
