Bernice M. Geal

Bernice Mary Geal “Bac”, 99 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, just 27 days before her 100th birthday at Promedica Monroe Hospital under the care of Promedica Hospice. Born August 28, 1918 in Montreal, Canada, Bernice was the daughter of the late Bill and Agnes (Molla) Joworski. She was a graduate of Hamtramck High School where she played violin in the band. On January 16, 1943, Bernice married her beloved husband George C. Geal in Detroit. Sadly, he preceded her in death on May 15, 2002. Bernice and George owned and operated Geal Corporation in Monroe for many years. Bernice was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church and Detroit Beach Boat Club. Bernice was a wonderful homemaker, loved to entertain, was a fantastic Polish cook and pie maker. She and her husband enjoyed boating and riding horses. She was the beloved matriarch of the Geal family and will be greatly missed. Most of all she loved time spent with family. Bernice is survived by four loving children; George (Sally) Geal, Jr. of Parker, CO, Nancy J. Earls (Edward Nadeau) of Monroe, William H. (Carol) Geal, II of Monroe, a step daughter; Marilyn Porritt of Rochester Hills 13 grandchildren; Darla Myers, Lee Geal, Mark Geal, Jill (Bart) Boucher, Craig (Michele) Cable, Kermit Cable, George Geal, III, Sara Geal, Stephanie Dunn, Ronald (Diane) Benish, Bradley (Sarah) Geal, Brian Geal, and William H. (Tricia) Geal, III great grandchildren; Tommy (Nicole) Knisley, Jennifer Knisley, Laura Knisley, Caitlin Cable, Kamryn Cable, Elvis Lanham, Aurora Morris, Madison Dunn, Kyleigh Dunn, Adam (Kasey) Benish, Diana (Alex) Thompson, Rylee Geal and Timothy Sheridan, a nephew; Dennis (Barb) Joworski, and a niece; Linda (Nick) Plopan. In addition to her husband and parents, Bernice was preceded in death by daughter; Delphine Bartlett, granddaughter Jeni Geal, grandson; D. Rick Benish, stepson; Roger W. Geal, a sister; Jean Patterson and her brother Ted. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-7 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI 48161. On Monday, August 6, 2018 she will lie in state at St. Anne’s Catholic Church from 9:30 AM until Mass of the Resurrection celebrating her life at 10:30 AM. Fr. Henry Rebello will be the celebrant. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Anne’s Catholic Church or the IHM Motherhouse.
