Anthony J. Maniaci

Anthony J. "Tony" Maniaci, 90 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Wellspring Lutheran Services in Monroe. Born June 14, 1927 in Monroe, Tony was the son of the late Giacomo “Jack” and Mary (Barretta) Maniaci. Tony served our country honorably and proudly as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army. Tony served from September 4, 1945 to February 2, 1947. He received the WWII Victory Medal and the Army Occupation Meal (Japan). On June 26, 1948 Tony married his beloved wife, the former Evelyn M. Cibak at St. Joseph Church in Monroe. Tony was employed as a hi-lo driver at River Raisin Paper and Union Camp for 44 years. He retired in 1988. Tony was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church until its closing and is now a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Monroe. He was a life member of the VFW Post #1138 and Monroe Senior Citizens. Tony enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Northern Michigan with his sons and brothers hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing and traveling. Most of all Tony enjoyed time spent with family. Tony is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Evelyn, four loving children, Jack A. Maniaci, of LaSalle, Michael J. Maniaci of Maybee, Samuel S. (Kathy) Maniaci of Monroe and Sharon M. (Leon) Bellner of LaSalle, eight cherished grandchildren, seven treasured great grandchildren and a brother Joseph M. (Kathryn) Maniaci of Maybee. In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by a grandson Brad Bellner and a brother Samuel. Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 1-7 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI 48161 where a Scripture Service will be held at 6:00 PM. On Monday, September 25, 2017, he will lie in state at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Monroe from 9:00 AM until Mass of the Resurrection celebrating his life at 10:00 AM, Monsignor Chris Vasko will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe, where the VFW Post 1138 will conduct military honors. Memorial contributions are suggested to the VFW Post 1138.
