Vincent J. Stein

Vincent J. Stein, 82 years, of Carleton, Michigan passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, October 9, 2014. Born February 1, 1932 in Newport, Michigan, Vince was the son of the late Donald T. and Wilhelmina (Rutkowske) Stein. Vince attended the Hall of Divine Child Elementary School, Monroe Catholic Central High School and was a 1951 graduate of Airport High School. Vince went on to attend Henry Ford Community College from which he earned an associate’s degree. On August 30, 1957, Vince married his beloved wife, the former Bonnie J. Reeves, in Carleton. Sadly, she preceded him in death on September 12, 2000 after 43 years of marriage. Vince served his country honorably and proudly during the Korean War in the United States Army from April 3, 1952 until January 5, 1954. For his valor he received the Korean Service Medal, The United Nations Medal and two Bronze Service Stars. Vince began working at Ford Motor Company in 1950 at the age of 18, after serving his country in Korea, he returned to Ford and continued his career until his retirement in 1987 as a Supervisor of Steel at the Monroe Plant. Vince enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Lewiston, Michigan, deer hunting with his sons and grandsons, fishing, watching the Detroit Tigers, NASCAR and football. He also had a passion for cabinet making and was a perfectionist at woodworking. Vince was a true handyman and could fix or repair anything. He will be remembered as a humble man who cherished life, his friends and most of all his loving family. Vince is survived by six loving children: Bradley P. (Jan) Stein of Monroe, Brian K. (Barbara) Stein of Carleton, Bennett J. Stein of Monroe, Beverly J. Pierce of LaSalle, Barbara R. (Pat) Pifer of LaSalle, and Bridget M. (Stuart) Rosenberg of Chicago, IL. 13 cherished grandchildren, 9 treasured great grandchildren, three brothers: Benny (Beulah) Stein of Newport, Harold (Donna) Stein of Carleton, Thomas (Cheryl) Stein of Monroe, and three sisters: Marlene (Don) Hargis of Monroe, Betty Jane Lazette of Monroe and Carol Ann (Harvey) Kecskes of Port Huron. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, Vince was preceded in death by two brothers: Charles and Edward Stein. Visitation will be held on Monday from 12 – 8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI, 48161 where a Rosary Service will be held that evening at 6:00 PM. On Tuesday, October 14, 2014 funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 AM also at the Bacarella Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park where the VFW Post 1138 will conduct military honors. Memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
