Norman F. Spencer

Norman Spencer (Grampy/Chewpa), 86, formerly of Monroe, would like you to know he has finished his work here on earth. Norm finished his assignment on Monday, December 10, 2018, surrounded by his family in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He was called for a journey from which he will not be returning. His journey will be taking him to a wonderful place where he will be hunting, fishing, mushrooming, socializing and having a reunion with family and friends he has not seen in a while. Norm began his life on June 9, 1932 in Allen County, Ohio. He was the son of the late Owen C and Katherine E (Hughes) Spencer, brother to Randall D and Waldo M Spencer and Vivian Simmons. Father to Katrina I ( Mark Yoas) Richett, Patricia S (Willard) Shaw, Norman F (Patricia) Spencer II, Sabrina D (Kenneth) Kehres, and Michael C (Lisa) Spencer. Norm was blessed with thirty-two grandchildren. His journey led him to meet Jacquelyn R Bowers of Lima Ohio in 1951, they were married in Corinth, Mississippi. He later joined hands with Joyce Uden of Monroe. Norm worked in the automotive industry, running his own business, Beach Heating and Cooling. He moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida in 2003 so he could enjoy his hobbies year round. Norm enjoyed his children and grandchildren. He spent several years going to the V.A. Hospital in Riveria Beach, where he went to physical therapy and earned the nickname "The General." He was an inspiration to many veterans throughout his time there. He enlisted in the Army in 1949 and served on the front lines in Korea, where he earned many decorations. He was a proud patriot of our Nation and the patriarch of his family. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, wife and longtime companion, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Randall and Max; sister, Vivian Simmons, son-in-laws, Willard Shaw and Mark Yoas; and grandson, Baby James. Memorial visitation will be held Saturday, December 22, 2018, from noon until services celebrating his life at 3 p.m. at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Road, Monroe, MI, 48161. Rev. Curt Faunce, Pastor of Monroe Outreach Assembly of God, will officiate. Military honors will be under the auspices of V.F.W. Post 1138, Monroe. A private entombment will follow at a St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions in Norm's memory are suggested to the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System.
