Milton R. Dennis

Milton R. Dennis, age 80, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014, in Mercy Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He had been in declining health since January. Born in Monroe, MI, Milt was the son of the late Delmer and Bertha (Wiesenmaier) Dennis. Milt attended Monroe Public Schools and was a 1951 graduate of Monroe High School. Milt went on to further his education by attending Eastern Michigan University. On September 6, 1958 Milt married the former Jean E. Emerson at Zion Lutheran Church in Monroe. The Rev. Gerhard Cares performed the ceremony. Milt retired from Ford Motor Company, Monroe, MI in 2000 after 30 years of employment. When asked what he did there, his reply was ‘I threw bumpers around’. Prior to that he worked as a car salesman for 11 years, six years at O’Brien Ford and five years at Webster-Duvall. Milt served his country honorably and proudly in the US Army as a Green Beret in the 77th Special Forces stationed in Fort Bragg, NC and a Staff Sergeant from 1954-1956. He enjoyed watching sports, fishing, hunting and playing golf. As well as spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid reader and enjoyed going to the casinos with his wife. Milt is survived by his wife of 55 years; Jean, three daughters; Sherry Dennis of Monroe, MI, Vicki Perion of Petersburg, MI and Jeri (Brian) Hamilton of Temperance, MI, five grandchildren: Alex and Jessie Perion, and Gavin, Sidney and Colin Hamilton, a sister, Elva (Charles) Lemerand of Monroe, MI, a sister in law; Yvonne Black of Hattiesburg, MS, five nephews and one niece. In addition to his parents, Milt was preceded in death by his step mother; Dorothy Dennis and a brother in law; Rodrick Black. In keeping with Milt's wishes cremation and interment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle, MI. Private family services will be held at a later date. A special "Thank You" to the wonderful staff at Magnum Care of Monroe and the I.C.U. and E.R. units at Mercy Memorial Hospital. The Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI 48161 is assisting his family with funeral arrangements. Contributions can be made in memory to Zion Lutheran Church and Humane Society of Monroe.
