Mary E. Donofrio

Mary E. Donofrio, 87 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 24, 2016 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born June 14, 1929 in Monroe, Mary was the daughter of the late Anthony and Evelyn (Nagel) Ciacelli. Mary attended St. Mary’s Catholic Elementary School and St. Mary’s Academy. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Church. On February 7, 1948 Mary married her beloved husband Joseph T. Donofrio at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Monroe. Sadly, he preceded her in death on June 5, 2010 after 62 years of marriage. Mary was a member of St. John The Baptist Church in Monroe and was active with the Altar Society and helped with funeral luncheons. Mary was a member of the Mother’s Club and a volunteer at Mercy Memorial Hospital. She also attended the Widow’s Club in Monroe and volunteered for the Thrift Shop of Monroe. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and playing cards. Mary worked for 10 years at Mercy Memorial Hospital in the housekeeping department. Mary was a wonderful homemaker and care giver to her family. She loved going to her grandchildren’s sporting events and was their #1 fan. Mary is survived by six loving children: Margaret M. (Larry) Kull, Anthony J, (Lynn) Donofrio, Constance Ann Russeau, Christina M. (Scott) Wagner, Michael J. (Cynthia) Donofrio and Regina M. (Joseph) Rendina, all of Monroe, 16 cherished grandchildren, 15 treasured great grandchildren and 2 precious great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by a son Thomas, a grandson Joseph Kull, and three brothers: Anthony, Richard and Alex. On Saturday, July 2, 2016, Mary will lie in state at St. John The Baptist Catholic church from 10:00 AM until Mass of the Resurrection celebrating her life at 11:00 AM. Fr. James Smalarz and Deacon Mike Stewart will be the celebrants. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. The Bacarella Funeral Home 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
