Marianne "Annie" Germani

Marianne (Annie) Germani peacefully earned her angel wings on Wednesday, June 9th at Promedica Monroe Regional Hospital surrounded by the love of family and friends. Annie was a lifelong resident of Monroe, born on July 1, 1946 to Mario and Marie (Fix) Germani. She attended St. Joseph grade school and Saint Mary Academy graduating with the class of 1964. After graduation, she completed training at Statzenberger Business school in Toledo. Annie continued taking classes as an adult, and earned her Associate Degree from Monroe County Community College in 1982. She grew up working alongside her sisters at her parent’s grocery store, Detroit Beach Supermarket, where she honed her people skills to perfection. Following high school, Annie worked at Union Camp, and then Monroe County Community College. She held a variety of positions at the College, retiring in August of 2010 after 40 years of service. Annie was well known for her service-oriented nature, and she served as an active member of numerous committees both at the College and in the community. Some of her memberships included The Humane Society, Friends of Companion Animals, Project Second Chance, Altrusa, Soroptimist, We Care for Life, and Relay for Life. She was also a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroe, past board member of ALCC in Monroe, and the first chairman of The Monroe County Chamber of Commerce Women’s Division. Annie was blessed to be a gifted intuitive, and she generously shared this gift with family and friends. For many years she used her talent at the Westminster Dog Show in New York. Her compassionate insights and wise words enriched the lives of many people and their furry companions. Annie was well known for having a huge heart and being a friend to all. She delighted in making other people smile. For Annie a day spent shopping was a day well spent whether at Shipshewana Flea Market, a local street fair, or via a TV shopping channel. Once retired she enjoyed many casino adventures, playing the slot machines and indulging in the buffets. To cherish her memory, Annie leaves behind her beloved companion, Larry Grabetz; sisters Mary Lou LaVoy, Rita Eby, and Michelle (Bob Grove) Germani; friend, cousin and shopping accomplice, Mary Jane Fix; numerous nieces and nephews; her furry loves, Chloe and Gizmo; and too many friends to count. Her love and friendship, zest for life, contagious laugh, flashy fashion sense, and love of glitz will be greatly missed. When Annie reached heaven, she was greeted by her parents, her sister, Rosemary Singleton, her brother-in-law, Mark LaVoy, her nephew, Tom Eby, and many family members, friends, and her precious pets. Visitation will be held at Bacarella Funeral Home on Monday, June 14th from 2pm to 8pm. The Rosary, led by Deacon Mike Stewart, will be recited at 6 pm. On Tuesday, June 15th, she will lie in state at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monroe beginning at 10 am with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating her life at 11 am. Rev. Fr. Giancarlo Ghezzi will officiate. A private burial service will take place at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to Relay for Life of Monroe or The Humane Society of Monroe County. Annie’s family would like to thank the Promedica Monroe Emergency Room staff and also the nurses and nurse assistants on Two South for their kindness and compassion. It will never be forgotten.
