Margaret A. Serra

Margaret A. Serra, age 80 a life-long resident of LaSalle, went home to be with the Lord at 1:30 am Thursday, January 17, 2019, at ProMedica Ebeid Hospice Residence, Sylvania, Ohio. Born November 12, 1938 in LaSalle, she was the oldest daughter of twelve children born to the late Cornelius and Lucille (Seger) Russeau. Margaret was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Church, Erie, where had been a life-long member. She attended Monroe High School, graduating with the class of 1956. After high school, Margaret worked briefly at Sears where she met her husband, Delfino Serra. The two were married on October 19, 1957 at St. Joseph Church in Erie. After leaving Sears, she devoted the majority of her time to being a homemaker and raising her seven children. Margaret was a longtime member of the Water Tower Seniors, K of C Ladies Auxiliary, and the Senior Friendship Club. She was also a member of a Bunco group for several years. She enjoyed playing Rummy, word puzzles, sewing, and Bible study. Margaret loved spending time with her family and was a tender-hearted, selfless person who would do anything for anyone. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. To cherish her memory, Margaret leaves her beloved husband of sixty-one years, Delfino of LaSalle; seven children: John A. Serra of LaSalle, Cindy M. Wagner of Monroe, David J. Serra of Monroe, Michael A. (Tina) Serra of Boardman, Ohio, Sandra A. Perkins of Monroe, James E. Serra of Monroe and Gregory S. (Anna) Serra of Monroe; ten siblings; and nine grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister. Memorial contributions in Margaret’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. Visitation will be held from 1 pm until 8 pm, with the Rosary being recited at 7 pm, on Monday, January 21, 2019, at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 South Telegraph Road, Monroe, MI, 48161. Margaret will lie in state at 10 am Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, Erie, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am by the church pastor, Rev. Fr. Mark Prill. Interment will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Erie.
