Lucille Mary Bohmer

Lucille Mary Bohmer, 90 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Wellspring Lutheran Services. Born October 5, 1925 in Strasburg, Monroe County, Michigan, Lucille was the daughter of the late Frank and Stella (Wright) Burkett. She was born on the family homestead where she lived her entire life. Lucille attended a one room school, Strasburg, for eight years and was a 1942 graduate of Ida High School. On October 17, 1946, Lucille married the love of her life, Roger E. Bohmer at First United Methodist Church in Monroe. They celebrated their 69th Wedding anniversary in 2015. Lucille was an 89 year member of First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 35 years, was Sunday School Superintendant. During WWII she worked at Woodall Industries in Monroe as a riveter on the Navy Corsair planes where she was known as “Lucy the Riveter”. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Ida Hardware and Implement in Ida, MI. Lucille was a Cub Scout Leader for Ida Troop, a member of the Ida High School Alumni Association, a life member of the Monroe County Fair, a member of the Monroe Senior Center and a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers. Most of all Lucille enjoyed being a homemaker. She was an excellent cook and baker, especially wedding cakes, and she was quite talented at making quilts and afghans. Lucille is survived by her husband and lifelong love, Roger, a son Ronald (Marcy) Bohmer of St. Helen, MI, a daughter-in-law, Irene Bohmer of Monroe, grandchildren: Jeffrey (Stacey), Jason (Melissa), Joel Weatherholt, and Julie (Kevin) Kerfoot, Jim (Joann) Kohler, Jill Kohler and many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Lucille was preceded in death a son Melvin “Cho Cho” Bohmer, brothers: Kenneth, Chester and Rev. Raymond Burkett and a sister: Matilda Whiting. Visitation will be held on Monday from 3-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. Monroe, MI 48161, where funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. James Jacobs will officiate. Interment will follow at Historic Woodland Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to Holiday Camp of Monroe for handicapped children or First United Methodist Church.
