Linda M. Castello

Linda Marie Castello, 66 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 15, 2018, at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. She had been seriously ill for three weeks. Born February 20, 1952 in Monroe, she was the daughter of John “Jay” and the late Margaret (Jennings) Shopshire. Linda attended Monroe High School, graduating with the class of 1970. During high school, at the recommendation of a close friend, she began writing a young man named Frank T. Castello, who was serving in the United States Army. After nine months as pen pals, they finally met on September 9, 1967, while Frank was on leave. The two would continue their long distance relationship for more than two years and were finally married on June 20, 1970, at Stewart Road Church of God. Prior to her twenty-three year career at Professional Village Pharmacy, Linda briefly worked at the S.S.I.H.M. Mother House. She also worked for Dr. Tedd March’s office for several years prior to her full retirement in 2014. Linda was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed shopping; vacationing with her friends, Jan and Amy and going to dinner with her fellow Dinner Club members. Linda was a wonderful woman and was loved by all that had the opportunity to meet her. To cherish her memory, Linda leaves her beloved husband of forty-eight years, Frank T. Castello of Monroe; two children, Carrie (Jon) Bullard and Anthony J. Castello both of Monroe; two brothers, Eric (Carolyn) and Alan “Al” (Terri) Shopshire both of Monroe; four grandchildren: Jon Bullard, Jr., Katelyn Fuerstenberg, Jacob Bullard and Bella Castello; one great-grandchild, Roselyn Fuerstenberg; and one great-grandchild on the way. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her aunt, Margaret Brooks and uncle, Robert Shopshire. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Road, Monroe, MI, 48161 from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. Services will be held Friday, October 19, 2018, at 11 a.m. also at Bacarella Funeral Home. Rev. Jeffery Heimsoth, Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Memorial contributions in her memory are suggested to the family.
