Joseph L. Focht

Joseph L. Focht, age 74, of Monroe, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born February 28, 1949 in Kenton, Ohio; he was the son of Morris and Shirley (Armentrout) Focht. He married Brenda J. Palmer on June 28, 1974. He was a 1967 graduate of Ida High School and obtained his Associate of Criminal Justice degree from Wayne State University. Joe proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1968 until his honorable discharge in 1972; serving from 1968 – 1970 in Vietnam. Joe was a deputy for the Monroe County Sheriff Department for 20 years, he then worked for Ford Motor Company for 10 years until his retirement in 2006. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, F.O.P. Lodge 113, V.F.W. Post 1138 and Monroe Lodge 27 Free and Accepted Masons. Joe enjoyed telling jokes, shooting at the range, playing cards and dice. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He always enjoyed family get togethers and playing games. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Brenda Focht of Monroe; three children, Michael (Rebecca) Focht of Ormand Beach, FL, Adam (Katie) Focht of Williamston, MI and Katie (Patrick) Flowers of Monroe; four siblings, Barbara (William) Nolan of Toledo, Ralph (Deborah) Focht of Savannah, GA, Kenneth Focht of Howell, MI and Jacqueline Waters of Macomb, IL; eight grandchildren, Addison, Liam, Avery, Sophia, Alexander, Gabriel, Isabella and Olivia. He is preceded in death by his parents and beloved grandmother, Cora Armentrout. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 15, 2023 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe where military honors will be conducted at 5 p.m. by V.F.W. Post 1138, Monroe. He will lie instate at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church with Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. Rev. David Burgard, pastor of the church, will officiate. Memorial contributions in Joe’s memory are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project.
