Arlene M. Turnbull

Arlene M. Turnbull, age 95, of Monroe, joyfully went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born June 9, 1926, in Lansing, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Ruth (Felton) Willcutt. Arlene was a graduate of Sexton High School in Lansing, Michigan. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in social work from Michigan State University and her Master’s Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University. Arlene was an elementary school teacher for many years at Gibraltar Public Schools and transitioned to Monroe Public Schools, retiring in 1988. Arlene was extremely passionate about being an educator. She enjoyed doing crafts, especially painting and basket weaving. At one time she dreamed of being a concert pianist. Arlene also loved to travel the world and go camping with family when the children were young. She was a volunteer for many years at Monroe Thrift Shop and Mercy-Memorial Hospital, now known as ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. To cherish her memory, Arlene leaves behind three children: Kathleen (the late Jerome Motley) Turnbull of Belleville, Michigan, Gary (Denise Washington) Turnbull of Belleville, and David Turnbull of Tampa, Florida; four grandchildren: Shane, Brendan, Justin, and Brittany; two great-grandchildren: Starleesha and Daneisha; two great-great-grandchildren, Serenity and Legacy; and a devoted niece, Anne Harlow. In addition to her parents, Arlene is preceded in death by her husband, Howard Turnbull; three siblings and Theodore, Donald, and LauraAnn Turnbull. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 South Telegraph Road, Monroe, MI 48161. Private Burial will take place the following day at Michigan Memorial Park, Flat Rock. Memorial contributions in Arlene’s memory are suggested to the Bed Ministry at First Presbyterian Church or Oaks of Righteousness Church.
