Noleca J. Cunningham

Noleca J. Cunningham, 73 years, of Monroe, MI passed away Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 9:20 AM in Tendercare of Monroe. Noleca was born February 6, 1937 in Monroe, MI the daughter of the late Robert and Iva Ann (Williamson – Thompson) Haygood. After graduation from Monroe High School Noleca moved to Middlesboro, KY, where she met, fell in love with, and on January 15, 1955 in Monroe, married her beloved husband, Lawrence E. Cunningham. Noleca worked as a certified nursing assistant at the Lutheran Home and in the home health care industry, retiring in the mid 1990’s. She was a member of Raisinville Baptist Church. Noleca was also a wonderful homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, flower gardening, fishing with her husband on Lake Erie and cooking. Her family so enjoyed eating her chicken and dumplings. Noleca was a caring and loving person who loved spending time with her friends and family. Noleca is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years Lawrence, 3 loving children; Valerie R. Filimon, Vaughn L. (Helen A.) Cunningham and Patrick G. (Becky) Cunningham all of Monroe, 7 cherished grandchildren; John, Jessie, Joe, Haleigh, and Hannah Cunningham and Renay and Korin Stefko, 6 treasured great grandchildren and a brother Tillman A. (Lisa) Thompson of New Hampshire. In addition to her parents, Noleca was preceded in death by a son; Vincent and 2 grandsons; Benjamin and Daniel Cunningham. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe, where funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 2:00 PM. The Rev. Benjamin T. Hawes, pastor of Rockwood Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be given to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.

Robert L. Richardson

Robert L. Richardson, 65 years, of Monroe, MI passed away on Friday, February 19, 2010 at Mercy Memorial Hospital. Robert was born the son of a share cropper, Charles and Annie Bell (Barnes) Richardson on September 17, 1944 in Lewisville, AR. He attended Foster High School in Lewisville where he lettered in football. In 1965 Robert moved to Monroe from Arkansas. On June 1, 1968 in Monroe, Robert married his beloved wife the former Ruth E. Watkins whom he shared his life with for 45 years. Robert worked as a maintenance man for Monroe County Community College from 1968-1976. In 1976 he went to work for Detroit Edison as a power plant operator where he worked until his retirement in 2006. Robert was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Lewisville where he was baptized at the age of 14. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking, and his time as a 4-H Leader in the Good Times Group in Monroe. Most of all Robert enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Robert is survived by his beloved wife Ruth, 3 loving children; Robert A., Regina R., and Renee’ J. Richardson all of Monroe, 11 cherished grandchildren, 1 treasured great grandson and one treasured great granddaughter due to come into this world in April, a brother Ben (Ruthie) Richardson of Romulus, MI, and 3 sisters; Fannie L. Hicks of Gary IN, Annie Bell Bass of West Memphis, AR, and Pearlie Mae Garland of Little Rock, AR. Sadly, Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father in law Jacob and Jonnie Mae Watkins, 2 brothers; Charles and Willie and a sister Lucille, Briggs. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010 in the Bacarella Funeral home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe, from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating his life at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Glendine Burkett

Glendine “Glennie” Burkett, 86 years, of Monroe, MI passed away Thursday, February 11, 2010 in Mercy Memorial Hospital. Glennie had been in declining health for several years. Glennie, as her family and friends called her, was born February 5, 1924 in Toledo, OH the daughter of the late Jerry D. and Rosa (Robbins) Smith. Glennie attended Lincoln Elementary School and Monroe High School. Later in life she returned to school and graduated through Monroe Senior Citizens with her GED in 1985, something she was very proud of. In 1942 Glennie married James O. Garrett in Napoleon, OH, sadly he preceded her in death in 1963. In November of 1965 Glennie married Donald C. Burkett at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. During WWII Glennie worked at Woodall Industries in Monroe. She along with her husband Jim owned and operated Garrett’s Moving Company in Monroe, after Jim’s death she continued to run the company until her retirement in 1966. Glennie was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Glennie enjoyed reading, watching ice skating, and was an avid collector of teddy bears and perfume bottles for which she was nationally known. She also enjoyed traveling, meeting people and all the activities along with her husband Don as he sold and collected fruit jars and bottles. Glennie is survived by her beloved husband Don, her loving son and daughter in law Dennis J. and Barbara (Rassel) Garrett of Charleston, SC, 3 cherished grandchildren; Erica (Scott) Ensminger of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Matthew and Sean Garrett of Charleston, SC, 1 treasured great grandson Sammy, and a brother Thomas Gilbert of Toledo, OH. In addition to her parents and first husband Glennie was preceded in death by her foster parents; Elenor and George Morgan, sisters; Hazel Carter, Thelma and Mabel Smith, Irene Ginter, Geraldine Chevalia and a brother William Smith. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home. On Monday, February 15, 2010, she will lie instate at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church form 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating her life at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Evans C. Bentley will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor’s choosing.

Barbara Ann Bukowski Schwab, 67 years, died Wednesday, February 10, 2010 surrounded by her family. She had been diagnosed with cancer in 2006 and this started her on the fight of her life. She was born on February 25th, 1942, to Arthur Francis and Genevieve Josephine (Zawadzki) Bukowski in Chicago, Illinois. In 1972, she married John (Jack) Charles Schwab at St. Joseph Church in Summit, Illinois. Barbara is survived by her husband, Jack, her daughter, Erica, her son-in-law, Andre', her grandsons Kevin and Andrew and dear friends Thomas and Nancy Kroupa. She is also survived by members of the Dale and Mary DeSloover family, a sister, Kathleen L. Jankowski, and nieces and nephews. Barbara attended Mt. Assisi Academy High School in Lemont, Illinois, and was a Missionary Sister Servant of the Holy Spirit for 12 years and was known as Sister Regina Marie. She obtained her RN from St. Therese Hospital School of Nursing in Waukegan, Illinois, graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, and with a master's degree in behavioral psychology from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan. During her lifetime, she was employed at hospitals in Chicago, Illinois, Fostoria and Findlay, Ohio, and Monroe, Michigan, and at the Monroe County Community Mental Health Authority. Barbara was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and was on the boards of Home, Inc., and the Linswood Condominium Association. Her favorite hobby was being with her grandsons. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe where a wake service will be held at 7:00 PM. On Saturday, February 13, 2010 she will lie instate at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 924 E. Second St. in Monroe, from 11:00 AM until Mass Of The Resurrection celebrating her life at 12 Noon. Fr. William Fisher, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Cremation will follow. Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Raymond M. Robinson

Raymond M. Robinson, 90, of Venice, FL died peacefully, February 9, 2010 at Capital Hospice in Arlington, VA. Mr. Robinson now joins his wife of 65 years, Shirley Robinson, daughter of George and Leona Stumpmeyer of Monroe, MI, who passed in November 2008. He is survived by his son, Donald Robinson, daughter-in-law, Florence Robinson, and two grandchildren, JD and Stephanie Robinson, all of Arlington, VA. Ray was born in Dearborn, MI and earned both his undergraduate and master’s degrees in metallurgical engineering from the University of Michigan. His name is on 17 patents in that field. He greatly enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and Sudoku’s to keep his mind sharp, and generally could knock off a New York Times crossword puzzle in ink in five to ten minutes. He kept those abilities right up to the end. He was also an avid curler and once captained his team to first place and twice to second in the annual North American Bonspiel. He and his wife Shirley were also excellent ballroom and square dance dancers, usually dancing most days of the week. They both enjoyed travelling and cruises and visited every continent. Mr. Robinson was a very religious man and an active member of his church, the Auburn Road Presbyterian Church in America in Venice, FL, and truly lived according to the Word. All who knew him saw him as one of the most intelligent, kindest, honest, and generous man that they had encountered. He will be sorely missed in this world, but his time here will be celebrated by the love and compassion he showed to all and left for us to cherish. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe, from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating his life at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Quince Pettway, 82 years, resident of Monroe, MI since the 1970’s, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 5:15 PM in his home. Quince was born October 11, 1927 in Wilcox County, AL the son of the late Golden and Mary Belle (Warren) Pettway. On February 18, 1949 Quince married his beloved wife the former Gabriella Mae Tolbert in Alabama. Sadly, she preceded him in death on October 9, 1999. Quince was employed as a carpenter in the construction industry from which he retired. Quince enjoyed working in his yard, tending to his garden and fishing. Quince is survived by his 6 loving children; Virgil Pettway, James Pettway, Penny (Dennis) Hodrick, Elizabeth Pettway, Verna (Eugene) Hadnot, and Sharon Renee’ Pettway all of Cincinnati, OH, 1 brother; Edward Pettway of AL, 5 sisters; Leola Tyson, Mary Lee Hall, Penny Rodgers, Romattie West and Ida Mae Dudley all of Alabama, 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and one on the way, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, Quince was preceded in death by a son Quince Pettway Jr., 4 brothers; LeAllen and Cooper Mooney and Atmore and Joe Lewis Pettway and a sister Polly Bennett. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating his life at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 12:00 Noon in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, OH.

Florence S. Lazette, 91 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI passed away on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 4:00 PM in Tendercare of Monroe with her loving family at her side. Florence was born June 30, 1918 in Monroe, MI the daughter of the late Henry and Sarah (Gee) LaPrad. On November 9, 1940 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Monroe Florence married her beloved husband Chester F. Lazette. Sadly, he preceded her in death on March 10, 1971. Florence was employed by JCPenney in Monroe from 1936 until her retirement 1978. Florence was also a homemaker and a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Florence was an avid sports fan and was of the old school of listening to the Detroit Tigers, Lions, Red Wings and Pistons on her radio. In addition to listening to the radio Florence enjoyed reading. Most of all Florence enjoyed being with and spending time with her family. Florence is survived by her loving daughter Darlene J. Johnson of Toledo, OH and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. In addition to her parents and husband Florence was preceded in death by 2 sisters, 7 brothers and 3 nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe, where a Rosary Service will be held at 6:00 PM. On Friday, February 12, 2010 she will lie in state at St. Anne’s Catholic Church 2420 N. Dixie Hwy. in Monroe, from 9:30 AM until Mass of the Resurrection celebrating her Christian life at 10:30 AM. Fr. Robert C. Mossett, pastor of the church will officiate. A private interment will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Anne’s Catholic Church.

Ernie Lee Owens Sr., 62 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, February 5, 2010 at 10:59 PM. Ernie passed away unexpectedly in the emergency room at Mercy Memorial Hospital. Ernie was born April 22, 1947 in Monroe the son of the late Hubert J. and Tempie C. (Crutchfield) Owens. Ernie attended Mason High School. In 1970 Ernie fell in love with and married his beloved wife, the former Ann T. Brancheau, the Rev. Fred Swank performed the ceremony. Ernie worked for 15 years as a currier for several banks in the Monroe area, prior to that he worked as a porter for Monroe Dodge and Bob Russeau Motor Sales. Ernie was an active member of Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center where he was a greeter, a member of the courtesy team and took part in the Christmas program. Ernie enjoyed going to flea markets, auctions and garage sales. He enjoyed antiques, working on automobiles, watching wrestling and helping lead people to the Lord. Ernie’s favorite time was family game night. Ernie is survived by his beloved wife Ann, 6 loving children; William R. (Angie) Owens of Monroe, Brian D. (Candace “Kansas”) Owens of Carleton, Gary J. (Karen) Cole of Romulus, Ernie L. (Paula) Owens Jr. of Monroe, Tammy L. (Ancel) Ervin and Tina M. Owens both of Monroe, 16 treasured grandchildren; Amy (Pete), Allison, Kaycie, Jacey, Jett, Jaxon, Chase, Kody, Jessica, Sarah, Laura, Kaitlyn, Ashley (Joe), Jessica, Sarah and Emily, 2 cherished great grandsons Matthew and Nicholas and one great grandson on the way, 3 brothers; Bernie L. Coella Grace McManaway, age 93, of Speedwell, TN, formerly of Monroe, MI, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2010 at St. Mary’s Health and Rehab in LaFollette, TN. Coella was born June 2, 1916 in Washburn, TN the daughter of William Jack and Matilda Hopson. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Monroe. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Kermit McManaway; children, Zachary McManaway, Daphne Weiss, and Jennifer Smith; grandchildren, Dale Smith and Johnnie Weiss; brothers, Jim, Vaughn and Connie; sisters, Beulah, Bess and Lorene. Survivors, daughter, Sharon Russell, Speedwell, TN; sons, Monte McManaway, Florence, SC, Clark McManaway, Luna Pier, MI; brother, Luke Hopson, Knoxville, TN; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Carol Jean Sibole, 59 years, a resident of Monroe, MI for the past 2 years, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 5:02 PM in Mercy Memorial Hospital. Carol was born November 30, 1950 in Detroit, MI the daughter of the late William Nester and Jean Campbell (Phillips) Fry. Carol grew up in Detroit and was a 1968 graduate of Cooley High School. On March 14, 1974 in West Branch, MI Carol married her beloved husband Leland L. Sibole. Carol was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Clarkston, MI. Carol was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed all types of crafts including crocheting, needle point and sewing. Carol was a very special person with a big heart and enjoyed being with friends and family. Carol is survived by her beloved husband Leland, 2 loving daughters Veronica L. (Guy) Bomar of Monroe, MI and Vanessa L. Sibole of Sterling Heights, MI, 3 cherished grandchildren; Cheyenne, Skyler and Frankie Ann, and a sister Betteanne Hassler of Ortonville, MI. There will be no visitation and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Troy M. Parriet, 68 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI passed away on Friday, January 29, 2010 in his home with his beloved wife at his side. Troy had been in declining health for the past 3 years and under the wonderful care of Mercy Memorial Hospice. Troy was born January 23, 1942 in Monroe, MI the son of the late Calvin Brice and Lovetta Z. (Proffitt) Parriet. Troy attended Monroe High School. After high school Troy proudly served his country as a specialist in the US Army from July 13, 1962 until he was honorably discharged on July 13, 1965, most of his enlistment Troy was stationed in Germany. On August 14, 1965 Troy married his beloved wife, the former Marian Mae George in Monroe. That same year Troy began working for Ford Motor Company’s Woodhaven Stamping Plant where he worked until his retirement in 1995. Troy was a member of the First Wesleyan Church in Monroe and the East Side Men’s Club. Troy enjoyed playing cards and trips to the casino. Troy is survived by his beloved wife Marian, 3 loving children; Troy Michael (Linda) Parriet of Monroe, Thomas Matthew Parriet of Jackson, MI and Teresa Marie Parriet of Monroe, a cherished grandson Michael Joseph Parriet, 2 brothers Charles (Donna) Parriet of Houghton Lake, MI and Robert E. Lee (Maryann) Parriet of Monroe, 4 sisters; Kathy Pribyl of Arizona, JoAnne (Ron) Osborne of Bean Station, TN, Lottie Sue Kinney and Barb (Bill) Hood both of LaSalle, MI. Vera Ilene Peters, 75 years, of Newport, MI passed away peacefully and went home to be with her Lord on Friday, January 29, 2010 at 8:40 AM in her home. Vera was born February 10, 1934 in Maybee, MI the daughter of the late Leonard and Viola (Born) Federer. Vera was a 1952 graduate of Dundee High School. On January 22, 1958, Vera married her beloved husband Charles David Peters in Angola, IN. Sadly, he preceded her in death on November 18, 1980. Vera was employed as a bus driver for Monroe Public Schools for 25 years until her retirement in 1989. Vera was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Monroe and enjoyed gardening and her Dachshund - Sassy Babe. Above all Vera loved and enjoyed her family. Vera is survived by her loving daughter Verna E. (Robert) Fox of Monroe, MI and her cherished granddaughter Verena I. (Sean) Casey of Farmington Hills, MI, her brother Leonard Federer of Ypsilanti, MI and her sister Nancy H. (Bryson) Bennett of Westminster, CA. Visitation will be held on Monday from 1-9 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe. Joseph S. Keck Sr., 69 years, of Monroe, MI passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2010 in Mercy Memorial Hospital where he had been since Tuesday. Joe was born July 10, 1940 in Monroe, MI the son of the late Rev. Roy and Eva (Goin) Keck. Joe attended Monroe Public Schools and was a 1959 graduate of Monroe High School where he played drums and tuba in the band. On January 7, 1961 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroe, Joe married his beloved wife the former Antoinette M. Cicero. Fr. Stein officiated at the ceremony. Joe began his career as a grocery store manager at Boys Market in Long Beach CA. After leaving Boys Market, Joe moved back to Monroe where he managed the Great Scott Store for 15 years. Joe then became the manager of the Wholesale House in Dearborn, MI from which he retired in 2005. Joe was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish and work in his garden. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, the Red Wings, and the Tigers. Above all, Joe loved his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years; Antoinette, 2 loving children; Joseph S. (Amy) Keck Jr. and Karen M. Lee both of Monroe, 4 cherished grandchildren; Caitlin, Aaron Joseph, Meganne and KateMarie and his sister Virginia Glendon Beason of New Tazewell, TN. In addition to his parents Joe was preceded in death by his brother in law Paris Roy Beason. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 5-8 PM and Sunday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Gloria A. Janks, 85, of Carleton, passed away at 7 AM, on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at Fountainview of Monroe. She had been in poor health for 3 weeks. Gloria was born August 5, 1924 in Detroit, MI to Charles and Edith (Egner) Bergeron. She was a Graduate of Southwestern High School, Detroit. On January 6, 1943 she married Leslie C. Janks, they moved to the area in 1964 from Grosse Ile. Sadly, he preceded her in death on October 16, 1995. A homemaker, she also worked as a cook at Jefferson Schools for 15 years, retiring in 1985. Gloria enjoyed crafts, bowling, and sewing. She was a resident of the Carleton Co-op Senior Apartments since 1997, where she was very active, well known, and loved by the other residents. She greatly enjoyed living there with all of her friends! She will be missed very much by her loving daughters, Starr (Charles) Federico of Carleton and Gail (Larry) Pillette of Monroe, a cherished sister, Dawn Molnar of Phoenix, AZ, her beloved grandchildren, Eric (Jodi) Pillette, Corey Pillette, Leslie (Derek )Anderson, and Ellise Federico, and precious great grandchildren, Caden, Averie, and Teagen Pillette. Rose Polly Kovenich, 75, of Monroe, was born September 15, 1934 and passed away on January 25, 2010. Rose was born to Wes and Lorabell (Lawson) Lambdin in Pruden, TN, and raised in Middlesboro, KY. She married Michael Kovenich in Monroe, MI. They had three sons; George (Vivian) Kovenich and Geoffrey Kovenich of Monroe, and David (Cathy) Kovenich of Marble Falls, TX. She is survived by her sons, a granddaughter, Christin J. Petty, and a great grandson, Peyton Christopher Petty, sisters, Hattie (Ralph) Beach, Cassie Billingsley, Iva Whited, and a brother, Paul (Marie) Lambdin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike, her parents, a sister, Gracy Redmon, and a brother, Henry Lambdin. Rose worked for 20 years at La-Z-Boy, retiring as an executive secretary. She then volunteered for years at Mercy Memorial Hospital. She was a charter member of Heritage Baptist Church, and active in Bible Study and the Women of Wisdom groups. Rose enjoyed arts and crafts, and was known for the beautiful handcrafted cards she would make for others. She became an avid walker and nature lover on the trails of Sterling State Park, where she enjoyed daily three mile walks with her dear friend, Mary Sidell. Rose had been seriously ill since Thanksgiving, but her faith prepared her to go home peacefully. She chose to forego any special services, and has been cremated. Any charitable contributions may be made to Heritage Baptist Church, Mercy Memorial Hospice, or a charity of the donor’s choice. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to her caregivers and to all for the many cards, thoughts, prayers, and visits she received. They lifted her spirits, and she enjoyed every one of them.

Joann B. LaDuke, 70, of Monroe, passed away at home, at 4:12 PM, Sunday, January 24, 2010, with her loving family at her side. She had been in poor health for 3 years and seriously ill for 2 months. She was born June 7, 1939 to Charlie Poupard and Ethel (Pernia) Freet. On May 4, 1957, she married Joseph A. LaDuke at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Monroe. A homemaker, she enjoyed time with her family, grandchildren, and friends, baking and ceramics, trips to casinos, Las Vegas, and playing bingo. Survivors include her loving husband, Joe, cherished children, Gary J., Donald E. (Tammy), and Robert W. LaDuke, all of Monroe, and Denise of Marina Del Ray, CA, 4 beloved grandchildren, Tiffanie and Brittanie LaDuke, Melissa (Derek) Tegler, and Brieanna LaDuke, 4 precious great grandchildren, Hailey, Jaden, Mariah, and Zachary, and her close brothers, Ray Timmons of Beaverton, MI and James (Sharon) Poupard of Monroe. Sadly, her parents, father that raised her, Edgar Freet, and 3 brothers, Robert, Donald, and William Poupard, all preceded her in death. Friends may call Thursday, January 28, at the Bacarella Funeral Home, from 12-8 PM. On Friday, she will lie in state at St. Mary Catholic Church from 9-10 AM. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 AM to celebrate her life. Fr. Marc A. Gawronski, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Arnold Rose, 75, of Monroe, passed away at 10:30 PM, on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at the Oakwood Southshore Medical Center, Trenton, surrounded by his loving family. He had been in the hospital since January 11th. He was born January 8, 1935 in Whitley County, KY to Arthur and Linva Rose. He came to Monroe with his family in 1943. Arnold served his country in the US Army from 1952-1955, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. While in the service he met and married his wife, Margot L. Bauer, on April 16, 1955, in Bad Mergentheim, Germany. Upon his Honorable discharge they came back to Monroe to happily share their lives together for almost 55 years. He worked as a Millwright at Consolidated Packaging; North side Plant for 20 years, before going to work as a mechanic at Detroit Edison for 19 years. He retired in January 1997. An avid golfer, he enjoyed playing at many local courses with his friends, as well as with Margot. A family man, he always enjoyed time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He also was a graduate of Jefferson High School. He leaves to mourn, his loving wife, cherished children, Harold M. (Krystal) Rose of Newport, Felecia Wylie of Monroe, Sherry (Michael) Steenwyk of Hudsonville, MI, and Pamela Sharpe of Monroe, beloved grandchildren, Shawn and Bryan Rose, Stacey Leonard, Matthew Wylie, Ryan and Ashley Sharpe, and Daniel, Elizabeth and Paul Steenwyk, a precious great grandson, Brett Leonard, and his close sisters, Myrtle Prewitt of Monroe, Marie (Luther) Prewitt of Allen Park, Ivy Lou Harris of Newport, and Irene Hinkle of Corbin, KY. Sadly, his parents and 2 brothers, Lawrence and Onza Rose, preceded him in death. Dolores Ann Love, 71 years, of Monroe, MI went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 21, 2010. Dolores had been in Mercy Memorial Hospital for the past 6 days and in declining health since December. Dolores was born September 4, 1938 in Monroe, MI the daughter of the late Frank and Josephine M. (D’Arpini) D’Alessandri. Dolores was a 1956 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and went on to graduate from the St. Charles School of Nursing in Toledo as a Licensed Practical Nurse. On October 27, 1956 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroe, Dolores married the love of her life Gerald Lewis Sakala. Fr. John Kiernan performed the ceremony. Sadly, Gerald preceded her in death in December of 1960. Dolores worked as an LPN at Frenchtown Convalescent Center and for the Veterans Administration in Battle Creek, MI as well as other health care facilities in the United States for 35 years. Dolores was also a licensed paramedic. Dolores was an active member at St. Joseph Catholic Church where at one time she was the church organist. Dolores was a very spiritual person and was a member of the 3rd Order of St. Francis. Most of all Dolores loved her family especially those Sunday dinners with everyone gathered around to enjoy each other. Dolores is survived by 3 loving children; Regina M (Jerry L.) Berry of Newport, MI, Gerald Lewis (Marilyn) Sakala of Rosemont, MN and Paul Joseph (Sharon M. Conley) Knezevich of Monroe and 12 cherished grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents Dolores was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home where the 3rd Order of St. Francis will conduct a Rosary at 1:00 PM. On Monday, January 25, 2010 she will lie in state at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 9:00 AM until Mass of The Resurrection celebrating her life at 10:00 AM. Fr. Sherry Lynn Boetefuer, 49 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI passed away suddenly on January 21, 2010 in Ida, MI. Sherry was born January 31, 1960 in Monroe, MI the daughter of Lynn F. and Clara C. (Hicks) Rice. Sherry was a 1978 graduate of Airport High School. While at Airport High School, Sherry attended cosmetology school and became a licensed cosmetologist. Sherry was employed as the Manager for Macomb Residential Opportunities in Ida, MI, a company that Sherry worked for over 19 years. Most of all Sherry enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Sherry is survived by her 2 loving daughters; Lynnse A. and Alanna C. Boetefuer both of Monroe, her cherished and treasured granddaughter Emily J. Boetefuer, her beloved parents Lynn and Clara Rice of Carleton, MI, her brother David W. (Denise) Rice of S. Rockwood, MI, her sister Tammy F. (Skip) Bolton of Monroe and a special friend Michelle Miro of Monroe. Louella Johnson, 99 years of Monroe, MI passed away Monday, January 11, 2010 at 8:30 PM in Medilodge of Monroe. Louella was born July 11, 1910 in Vincennes, IN the daughter of the late James W. and Margarette (Hunot) Gray. On August 22, 1931 in Lawrenceville, IN Louella married her beloved husband William “Mack” Johnson. Sadly he preceded her in death on February 12, 1984. Louella was a wonderful and talented homemaker who enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, baking, candy making, and all sorts of crafts. Louella also worked outside the home for a short time at Woolworths and taught quilting and knitting classes in Monroe. Above all Louella enjoyed her family. Louella is survived by 2 loving sons; James E. (Fran) Johnson of Novi, MI and Richard L. (Carolyn) Johnson of Reno, NV, and a number of cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents Louella was preceded in death by a son William Johnson Jr. her sister Elsie Mae McKown and her grandson. Visitation will be held in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe on Friday, January 15, 2010 from 11:00 AM until funeral services celebrating Louella’s life at 1:00 PM. Fr. Mary M. Turner, 90 years, of Monroe, MI went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 6:00 AM in Fountain View of Monroe where she had been since July of 2008. Mary was born March 1, 1919 in Campbell, TN, the daughter of the late Isaac and Laura (Bolling) Orick. On January 20, 1935 in London, KY, Mary married her beloved husband Austin Turner. Sadly after 54 years of marriage, Austin preceded her in death on August 25, 1989. Mary was a faithful member of Bible Fellowship Church and a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Mary is survived by her loving children; Junior Turner, Mildred (Larry) Hawkins, Hazel (Huie) Leach, Joann (Norman) Stoner and Ada Turner all of Monroe, 1 sister; Sarah Burger of Norwalk, OH, 17 cherished grandchildren, 45 treasured great grandchildren 12 treasured great great grandchildren. Eugenia Lou “Gina” Collingsworth, 48 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 2, 2010 in the emergency room at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe. Gina was born July 24, 1961 in Monroe, MI the daughter of Eugene S. and Barbara J. (Hance) Burt Sr. Gina attended and later graduated from Monroe Public Schools. On October 21, 1988 Gina married her beloved husband Scott A. Collingsworth in Toledo, OH. A homemaker first and foremost, Gina also worked outside the home, she was employed as a lab tech for Four Star Greenhouse in Carleton for 10 years, she worked as a newspaper carrier for the Monroe Evening News for 3 years and was currently employed as a cashier at Meijer in Monroe. Gina enjoyed and was an avid player of World of Warcraft, an avid Red Wings Fan and enjoyed playing bingo. Most of all Gina enjoyed her family; Gina is survived by her beloved husband of 21 years, Scott, her loving children: Benjamin S. (Amanda Chase) Collingsworth of Monroe and Alyssa D. Collingsworth at home, 2 cherished grandchildren; Amelia and Xadrian, her nurturing parents; Eugene and Barbara Burt Sr. of Monroe, a brother Eugene S. (Shawna) Burt Jr. of Monroe, 2 sisters; Patricia A. (Allan) Biedlingmaier and Tina D. (Luis) Alamo both of Monroe, in-laws William F. and Judy Collingsworth of Monroe a sister in law; Tracy L.
