Elmer L. Cloum, 75 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 in his home.

   Born December 13, 1936 in Monroe, Michigan, Elmer was the son of the late Doras and Helen (McCormick) Cloum. From birth Elmer spent the duration of his life as a proud Monroe Resident. Elmer was a 1955 Graduate of Monroe High School. Elmer served his country honorably and proudly in both the US Navy and the US Army.

   In 1963 Elmer married the former Jeanne M. Karmal at St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Church in Monroe, Sadly she preceded him in death on November 30, 1974. On April 9, 1976 at Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe, Elmer married his beloved wife of 36 years, the late Elizabeth L. (Monhollen – Troxell) Cloum. Sadly she preceded him in death on June 25 of this year.

   Elmer worked as a Welder for General Motors Company in Willow Run for 31 years. He retired in 1990.

   Elmer was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir, ushered, was a bus driver assistant as well as Sunday School Superintendant for many years.

   Elmer enjoyed bowling, playing softball, fishing, cake baking and decorating as well as traveling. For over 6 years with his late wife Elizabeth, they spent their winters in Florida. But most of all Elmer loved spending time with his family.

   Elmer is survived by eight loving children: Joel A. (Cheryl) Cloum, Stephen J. Troxell, Richard K. (Dawn) Troxell, S. Elaine Robson, Judy A. Sachs, Susan M. Troxell, Karen J. (Douglas) Vanderbush all of Monroe and Nancy J. (Darren) Greene of Sudbury, Canada, 14 cherished grandchildren, nine treasured great grandchildren, and three brothers, DJ (Shirley) Cloum of Winter Haven, FL, Alfred (Sue) Cloum of Evansville, IN and Jack (Frances) Sayers of Knoxville, TN.

   Visitation will be held Sunday from 1-7 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe where funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Monday, August 6, 2012 at 1:00 PM.  The Rev. Joe Lumpkin former pastor of Calvary Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park where the VFW Post 1138 will conduct military honors.
