   Caterina Alfano, 75 years, of Monroe, MI went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 27, 2011 at Mercy Memorial Hospital. Caterina had been in declining health for several years.

   Born October 7, 1935 in Cinisi, Sicily, Italy, Caterina was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Giovanna (Galati) Vitale.

   On September 14, 1960 Caterina married her beloved husband Marco Alfano in Cinisi. They moved to Monroe in 1972.

   Caterina was employed as a housekeeper for 15 years at St. Mary’s Academy. She also worked as a cook for Big Boy and the Holiday Inn in Monroe. Caterina was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed cooking, knitting and crocheting.  She loved to bake bread and share it with her neighbors.

  She was a member at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroe and also helped bake bread for the Feast of St. Joseph.

   Most of all Caterina loved her family; she is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Marco, 2 loving children; Pietro Alfano of Chesterfield Township, MI and Maria Concetta (Jeffrey) Cosby of Monroe, and 2 cherished grandchildren; Marco and Susan Cosby. In addition to her parents Caterina was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Procopio and Vincenzo Vitale and 4 sisters; Fara Cusumano, Enza Priola, Pietra Randazzo and Rosa Cusumano.

   Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home where a Rosary Service will be held at 6:00 PM. On Wednesday, June 1, 2011 she will lie in state at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroe from 9:00 AM until Mass of the Resurrection celebrating her life at 10:00 AM. Fr. William Fisher, pastor of the church, will officiate. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe.
