Rosa Cusumano, 89 years, of Monroe, MI went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital in Wyandotte, MI.

Rosa was born on January 12, 1921 in Cinisi, Sicily, the daughter of the late Salvatore and Giovanna (Galati) Vitale. On November 28, 1940 in Cinisi, Rosa married her beloved husband Salvatore Cusumano. Sadly he preceded her in death on September 13, 1992.

In 1960 Salvatore and Rosa moved their family from their home in Cinisi to make their home Monroe. A wonderful homemaker, Rosa also worked as a housekeeper for St. Mary’s Academy for 20 years from which she retired in 1983.

Rosa was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroe. The most precious part of Rosa’s life was that in which she spent with her family. Rosa loved her children, yet her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her the most joy in life.

Rosa is survived by 3 beloved children; Giuseppe “Joe” (Joann) Cusumano, Procopio “Pete” (Karen) Cusumano, both of Monroe and Giovanna (Salvatore) Vitale of Wyandotte, 12 cherished grandchildren and 17 cherished great grandchildren, a brother Pietro Vitale and a sister Catrina (Marco) Alfano of Monroe. In addition to her parents and husband Rosa was preceded in death by her daughter and son in law; Caterina “Tina” and Faro Gaglio, 2 brothers; Procopio and Vincenzo Vitale and 3 sisters; Fara Cusumano, Enza Priola and Pietra Randazzo.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-9 PM and Thursday from 1-9 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe, where the Rosary will be recited on Thursday at 7:00 PM. On Friday, August 20, 2010 she will lie in state at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroe from 9:00 AM until Mass of the Resurrection celebrating her life at 10:00 AM. Fr. Stephen Vileo pastor of St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Church will officiate. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe.

#5 Collette Gessner 2010-08-20 02:32 My deepest sympathy to the Cusumano Family. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I remember your mom at St. Mary Academy! She was the sweetest and everytime we saw each other, I would say hi and she would always give me the biggest smile! She was a beautiful lady! I am a 1979 graduate of SMA and your mom is and always will be a part of my wonderful memories of my highschool years. God Bless You Quote
