William H. Peters, 72 years, of Monroe, MI passed away peacefully on Monday, October 25, 2010 in Clare Bridge Brookdale Senior Living.
Bill was born March 7, 1938 in Detroit, MI the son of the late William H. and Mildred (Henning) Peters. Bill grew up in Detroit and was a 1956 graduate of Cody High School. After graduation Bill served his country honorably and proudly as a United States Marine.
On October 2, 1965 Bill married his beloved wife the former Gwendolyn W. Pritchard in Detroit, MI. Bill and Gwen moved to Monroe from Trenton, MI in 1979. Bill was employed as a shift supervisor for Detroit Edison for 33 years until his retirement in 1998.
Bill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Monroe where he served as a Deacon, Usher and helped served meals to the underprivileged families in Monroe. Bill loved playing golf and was a member of the Monroe Golf and Country Club for many years. He also enjoyed skiing and gardening.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife Gwen, 2 brothers Tom (Jan) Peters of Linwood, MI, John (Donna Baker) Peters of Poway, CA, a sister Carol (Robert) Graf of Grosse Pointe, MI and several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Bill’s wishes cremation has been held.
On Saturday, November 20, 2010 Bill’s family will receive friends at the First Presbyterian Church, 108 Washington St. in Downtown Monroe, from 10:00 AM until a memorial service celebrating Bill’s life at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Nancy Carle pastor of the church will officiate.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church in Monroe.
